Chapter 19: Ne Reviens Pas

I ended up getting kicked out of his room. And just as expected, he kept denying that he ate chocolate. What a terrible liar he is. Why does he try to hide his sweet tooth anyway? It's just... He's so adorable. I was on my way back to my room when I saw the third prince in the hallway while reading a familiar paper in his hands. As I recognized the paper, I immediately grabbed it from him. He looked at me confusedly with his blue eyes. All of their siblings have blue eyes which they inherited from their father. Except for Cyrus—his eyes only turn blue during the night. The third prince has the same blond hair as his brother, Kylo. Same with his twin sister. His hair is curly and dangling. He has sharp and outlined features and looks so handsome for his age. Girls at his academy are probably drooling over him. Not to mention that he also has great taste in fashion. His clothes are rather peculiar and fancy, but everything he wears is just perfect on him. The third prince's name is Joseph Aiden Maverick. The princess's name is Josephina Akesha Maverick. “I’m sorry for the sudden intrusion, your grace, but why do you have this?” I asked Joseph. “Oh, I saw it on the floor so I picked it up! That must be a secret code addressed to someone. Based on the blood used to scribble the letters, that ain't ordinary blood. It is very bold and dark red and smells bitter. That must be some blood of a vampire or something,” he deduced. The third prince is indeed smart and sharp. He is known for acing all tests at his academy and being an overachiever. I must not have noticed that the paper had fallen from my pocket. I always brought it with me just in case I bump into Kieran so I could ask him about the meaning of the letter. But he hasn't shown himself to me yet. “And VK must be the sender of that letter. It could probably stand for Vampire King, don't you think?” Come to think of it, this note was from a bat. That's right, a bat. A vampire pet. “Do you own that letter? It says there that you shouldn't return. Anyway, I'll get going, Miss.” Don't return. So this is the translation of this note, huh? You shouldn't go back... Who shouldn't return back? And where shouldn't they go back? “Wait, third prince, your grace, I want to ask if you know why the sender of this letter wrote this in French?” I followed the third prince and asked. “Probably because they mean to send that to someone who can speak French, or it is their way of conversing, or the sender is trying to hide the true meaning of the letter. That is why he must've used his initials.” “Do you know anyone in the castle who used to receive letters like this?” I asked him again. He looked at me with his eyebrows met at the midline. He must be wondering why I'm being too inquisitive. “I apologize, your grace. I should just go back—” “No. I don't know anyone who has received such a thing before. Besides, if that is yours, how did you get it? The letters that the castle receives only pass through our trusted messengers. Did a messenger give that to you?” Joseph's voice lowered. Should I tell him that a bat left this on the balcony where I was waiting for Kylo? No. If he figures out there's a bat around the corner— “A bat, huh? Interesting. Then that letter might really be from a vampire.” HUH?! He can read my mind? “I can, Miss. My sister and I got our seventh sense when we turned fifteen. It's just that my telepathic ability isn't as great as my brother Cyrus, so I can only read minds when they are fully open. And just now, you were thinking very loudly. Pardon me if I invaded.” Wow. This is so embarrassing. Just last time, I was thinking how embarrassing it could be if someone younger than me has already unlocked their seventh sense, and here we are. A fifteen-year-old with a seventh sense standing before an eighteen-year-old with an unknown seventh sense. It's almost been a month since I turned eighteen. Where could my seventh sense be? Hey, did you eat my seventh sense? ‘Imbecile, Aquilla, imbecile. I couldn't possibly do that!’ Right. It must be very dumb of me to accuse my wolf of eating my seventh sense, which is absolutely impossible. “Maybe that letter is meant to be delivered to a vampire. I don't think there are vampires residing in the imperial castle though. I don't sense...any,” Joseph stated and roamed his eyes around. I suddenly remembered what Ma'am Hasha told me before, that there are lots of creatures here who invade the thoughts of others unknown. And she didn't limit it to werewolves only. Could it be that there are really vampires working here? “I do not sense anyone either,” I replied. But then, suddenly, I saw Kieran walking in our direction. My mind lit up as if a light bulb came out of it. Could Kieran probably be a vampire? That is why nobody could sense him? And why did Lady Thea die from shock? Kieran bowed down in reverence for the third prince. “Greetings to you, third prince. It's been months since I last saw you.” “Oh, don't be silly, Mr. Edevane. Sister and I were just gone for two months, or less,” Joseph replied with a voice filled with dignity. It's as if I didn't hear his quarrel with his sister before in the carriage. At some point, they traumatized me a bit. However, I may be wrong about wishing not to encounter them again. The third prince helped me a lot with decoding this strange letter. Kieran smiled at Joseph and turned his gaze at me. He smiled even more, which made his dimples grow deeper. “Why didn't you show yourself to me for two days? Had something happened to me during those days, wouldn't you come to my rescue?” I firmly stated in a serious voice. Kieran sighed and parted his dangling black hair. “I apologize for being absent, Eagle. I went to do business somewhere.” “Where could that be?” Kieran parted his lips in puzzlement. A few seconds later, he smirked and asked, “Why does it matter to you?” I stared at him in disbelief. Joseph stretched his arms and yawned. He gestured at us that he would go and sleep in his room. As soon as the third prince left, I grabbed Kieran’s wrist and dragged him inside my room. An in-depth interrogation is about to commence.
