“You’ve been in a gloomy state for a week. I'm surprised I couldn't read your mind anymore,” Ma'am Hasha uttered as we were cleaning the extravagant walls of the hallway.
That's because I already learned how to block my thoughts from telepaths like you, Ma'am...
and Cyrus. That jerk!
“But what surprised me, even more, is that you did that in just a week. Most werewolves can't control their thoughts even after years of training.”
Is that so?
I finished cleaning my part and bowed my head at Ma'am Hasha, gesturing to her that I would be leaving. She didn't even turn to me. I take that as a yes.
After what happened that day at the bath, I've been extra careful to keep my thoughts to myself. Nobody has to figure out what happened, or else, I'll get into doom.
Even Kieran, as much as I want to tell him about it, I shouldn't. He'll just end up getting mad at me and telling me how dumb I am for letting such a thing happen again.
It's my fault. In the first place, I shouldn't have taken a bath on the Alpha King's premises. How bold of me to do that?
‘That is because you can't control yourself, Aquilla.’
I grinned as I heard my wolf speaking to me. Recently, I thought the voices I was hearing were just my thoughts. It turns out it was my wolf.
“Yeah, I know. It's because you also want Cyrus whenever he is near. You should also calm down.”
‘It is nature.’
Nature my ass.
That nature is going to get us into trouble.
On my way to the maid's kitchen, I saw a tall guy with a bulky body and a fitted red suit, leaning on the wall. He seemed like he was waiting for someone. He has the same height as Cyrus and has the same ocean-blue eyes. It's just that this guy's eyes are round and light. His hair is blond with darker highlights at the roots, fixed in a pompadour style. His countenance is just... so intimidating.
He's a werewolf.
I must be honest, he looks hotter than Cyrus.
He turned his head in my direction and I immediately looked away. I rushed to pass through him, but he crossed his arms and blocked my way.
“Are you the new maid? The auctioned omega?” he asked in a gentle and calm voice. His voice didn't sound as threatening as I expected it to be.
I raised my head and looked at him. He was smiling, and he didn't have dimples. I pressed my lips together and slowly nodded my head in response. He is definitely a part of the nobility, a high-ranking one. I should be respectful and demure right now.
“Yes, Sir. I am the infamous auctioned omega.”
“Infamous, really? You are the talk of the town!” He chuckled. “And I came here to see you.”
To see me?
I kept myself from arching a brow in confusion. I just stared blankly at him with my lips a bit parted.
“Oh, you don't know me, do you?” He offered me his hand. “Kylo Leif Maverick. Nice to finally meet you, Aquilla Calliope.”
I awkwardly held his hand and shook it.
Maverick?
“A-are you, perhaps, t-the Alpha King's brother? Or, a relative?” I asked in curiosity.
Not to mention, he and Cyrus actually look alike, especially their eye color.
He pulled his hand and crossed his arms again. He has broad shoulders and impressive biceps.
“Yup. I am his older brother.”
I had already heard about Cyrus having a sibling, but I didn't know he had an older brother. Besides, nobody in town talks about it anyway.
Then how come Kylo isn't the Alpha King?
“Then you are a prince! But why aren't you the Alpha King? Considering you are the first-born?”
He hissed and grinned. “The day I was born, my future has already been decided. Everyone thought I would be the next leader and Alpha King of Devas, since I was next in line to my father's throne. I even imagined that one day, I would sit on the golden throne and wear a crown on my head.”
I was attentively listening to whatever he was talking about. Why is he suddenly telling me about his life?
He looked at me and asked, “Should I tell you more?”
I shrugged my shoulders and nodded my head. That seemed ironic.
“I did my best to learn and be a good leader. But when I came of age, my seventh sense seemed to have ruined everything my family planned for me to be.” His voice turned gloomy, even if he tried to hide it, I could still sense the frustration.
How could a seventh sense ruin his life?
“And at that time, too, I figured out I had a brother. A half-brother who was born of the late King's affair with a mage.”
I gasped.
“And ta-da! Cyrus just came into our lives because his mage mom died. I wasn't hostile to him, it's actually the other way around. I've always dreamed of having a sibling, and he was a blessing to me. It's just that it made me frustrated and discouraged that he was meant to be the Alpha King all this time.” Kylo halted speaking and took a deep breath. “I wasted eighteen years of studying the rightful duties of the King. I should've just lived a normal life during those times.”
Am I hearing things correctly?
“Then, how did he become the Alpha King? And how did you know he was meant to be the one?” I asked, with lots of thoughts running inside my head.
“I can see the future. That is my seventh sense.”
My jaw dropped a lot.
Precognition is this Prince's seventh sense. It's a very rare one.
“B-but you can change the future, right? If you wanted to be the King, then you should've fought for it!” I retorted, stammering in shock.
Kylo shook his head. “It’s for the best. I was also asking myself during those times if I really wanted to be the next to the throne, but no, I never wanted to. I just liked the attention and fame, and nothing about being a leader. And with what you said— unfortunately, everything I have seen before has already happened, no matter how hard I try to stop them from happening, and no matter how hard I try to change the future. Maybe we can't really change what is ought to happen. Maybe everything is already destined from the start.”
I sighed. Having that kind of seventh sense must be so enervating.
“We don't make our future. Perhaps, the future makes us.”
