PROLOGUE
Alexi was the daughter of a poor, dysfunctional family. She had been the breadwinner ever since she turned eighteen. Unfortunately, she was only able to finish her second year of college, as juggling night shifts made it impossible for her to manage both work and school.
She worked as a call center agent, but her salary barely covered their monthly expenses. She was the sole provider for a household of four adults and two children. Her aunt’s family had been living with them ever since they lost their home due to mounting debts. Although her uncle had a job, his income was barely enough to cover their food expenses, especially as they were still repaying loans and debts. The family lived in a rented apartment that consumed half of Alexi’s monthly earnings.
Alexi was constantly stressed and emotionally drained. Just a month ago, her grandmother—whom she deeply loved—had passed away. Grief and anxiety consumed her, and she began to lose hope. To her, life was nothing but endless hardship. Even though she excelled at her job, she couldn’t see a future where she lived a good life.
Her coworkers recognized her potential. They believed she had what it took to climb the corporate ladder—she was hardworking, reliable, and performed well. But because of her difficult circumstances, she struggled to take care of herself. She often came to work disheveled, and some colleagues unfairly judged her, whispering that she smelled or looked unkempt.
Days went by, and Alexi felt like she was living only to pay bills and debts, with no plan or hope for the future. One night, while sleeping, she unknowingly slipped into a coma.
When she finally woke up, she was blinded by bright lights. As her vision adjusted, she noticed an IV drip and realized she was in a hospital room—but something felt off. The room looked expensive, far beyond what she could ever afford. Panic set in. How could she possibly pay for this? Would her HMO even cover it?
She tried to stand but collapsed immediately, a piercing headache overwhelming her. Just before blacking out again, she saw unfamiliar faces rushing toward her, alarmed by her condition.
In her dreamlike state, she saw her family—worried, calling out to her, trying to wake her. She could hear their voices, but her body didn’t respond. A thought crossed her mind: out of all her wishes, had God chosen to grant her the one she never dared say out loud—that she wished to die?
But God had a different plan.
Little did she know, her life was about to change completely. Or perhaps, it wasn’t just her life that was changing—but her soul, stepping into an entirely different body and destiny.
