Chapter 1: THE FIRST CHAPTER
Many years ago, people believed that mythical creatures existed. But, some people developed a theory that mermaids were like vampires, except instead of drinking blood, they took away a human's oxygen. And, to my surprise, I found myself drawn to this theory. My name is Celestia Arlianna Nicholson, though most people simply call me Celestia. I come from the 21st century, and I'm here to share my unusual story. I'm a 23-year-old resident doctor with a penchant for the fantastical, especially mermaid tales. This fascination started during my childhood and has only grown with time. Every free moment I get, I immerse myself in stories about these enigmatic sea creatures.
One particular night, while I lay sleeping, I experienced an extraordinary dream. In this dream, I found myself submerged in the depths of the ocean, without any scuba gear or breathing apparatus. I wore a flowing white dress, which seemed impractical for an underwater journey. I couldn't help but question, "How am I going to breathe down here?" As I pondered this, I felt a pair of warm, strong arms envelop me from behind. The sensation sent shivers down my spine, and I could swear my heart skipped a beat. The mysterious presence spoke softly, "Are you okay? You haven't said a word. Is something amiss?" His voice, like a gentle whisper, echoed in my ears.
I attempted to turn around to see the face behind that voice, but my vision suddenly blurred. Despite my dizziness, I managed to spin around, only to find a tantalizing silhouette, with the figure of a model, complete with an impressive six-pack. However, I couldn't make out any facial features due to the persisting blurriness. Just as I tried to speak, another voice broke through the dream, calling my name, "Celestia, Celestia, wake up! We're going to be late!" The voice was familiar. My eyes snapped open, and I was greeted by the sight of Thalia, my best friend, who was shaking me awake.
"Celestia, I think you were having one of your vivid dreams again," Thalia said with a bemused smile. I was stunned, unable to differentiate between the dream and reality. "So it was just a dream?" I mumbled to myself, struggling to accept the fact that the underwater encounter had been a mere illusion.
"Come on, sleepyhead," Thalia teased. "Dr. Hawthorne is calling us to the hospital. We can't afford to be late."
To my surprise, she continued, "And breakfast's ready, thanks to yours truly."
We shared a laugh, and I realized that Thalia was more than just a best friend; we were also roommates, sharing our daily lives and adventures together. We quickly finished breakfast and headed out, ready to face whatever the day held in store for us.
