Chapter One - The arrival
“This is it!” She exclaimed. Her arms stretching out above her and back again to cup her own cheeks in her hands. Amber had such an energy to her that she was practically bouncing up and down with excitement as she stood before the grand hotel complex of ‘Hotel l Nuit’.
Dione placed his hand on her shoulder his hand heavy and the metal of his ring warm on her skin. “It certainly looks impressive.”
The pair stood before the complex for a few more minutes just admiring the exterior.
The hotel was a modern building. With most of the outside building consisting of a white coloured almost concrete looking material, but it was divided up into different sections by a grey and black marble all cut into odd shapes across the walls of the outside. It was like nothing she had ever seen before. “Maybe we should venture inside? Might be an idea. I could do with checking in and refreshing myself you know.” Dione glanced at Amber as her face continued to marvel at the sight of the large building. “Yes I suppose you’re right. I can’t wait to see the ceiling!” She let out a small squeak of delight and Dione laughed at his friends childish delight and started to head into the hotel. He continued onto the reception desk to check in whilst Amber stood her neck craned towards the ceiling looking at the painting sprawled across it. Images of angelic natures, animals and the stars. All intwined into one and it all looked as though it were moving and shifting slowly. As if the stars glistened in real time.
“Your rooms are on the 11th floor of the left wing the elevators are too your left or the stairwell is just around that corner for you. If you need anything please contact us at reception. Enjoy your stay.” The receptionist spoke with a sweet voice but almost bored and as though she had mastered the lines she spoke and dared not to deviate from it. Dione laughed as if it were a joke “the 11th floor and she tells me where the stair are, you’re alright.” Amber tutted at him and rolled her eyes. “You know she probably has to tell you? For fire safety?” Dione just pushed her gently and made towards the elevator “yeah yeah he smiled. “And if there’s a fire I’m best jumping out the windows of this place save walking down 11 flights of stairs”.
As we waited by the elevator I noticed that they were rather unique. Each elevator had a little alcove that it was set inwards of, and each elevator had its own set of buttons. As though you could choose precisely which one you wanted to use rather than pressing one button and waiting for any of the three doors to open. There was also a key hole. Which was rather peculiar. As if to be able to lock and unlock the elevator doors. We didn’t wait for long and then the gold metallic doors moved across as the elevator arrived. And then another peculiarity revealed itself. The alcove it was set into lead to a short corridor. About a meter long perhaps which then lead to the open doors of the elevator. With blush marble walls and flooring I walked across the corridor admiring the sheen it had, they must buff it constantly to maintain this shine. I smiled and tugged at my bag as we stepped onto the elevator itself. “I’m so glad you came with me” I smiled and looked up at Dione. I felt a little tug of sadness as I knew who it was who was supposed to be with me. But that could wait. No need to feel miserable now. Not when I had my closest friend with me in the hotel that I had been wishing to travel to for so many years now. It was almost a dream come true.
