“You are a monster.”
Those were the last words she hurled at me before she slammed the office door so hard that the walls shook.
The vase on the corner table was the first thing my hand grabbed. I didn’t even think. I swung it at the floor, and it shattered into sharp pieces that scattered across the tiles. The sound echoed painfully loud, and for a moment the room felt smaller, tighter, like there wasn’t enough air for me to breathe.
