Prologue
"Oh, how the tables have turned". In the bowels of the underworld, Skotos; the recently executed god of darkness lay bare at the feet of Hades; the king of the underworld. With a stream of tears gushing profusely from his eyes and the pain of one who had been scorned, he sought out Hades to plead for his existence. "I'm sorry Skotos, Heimdall, and the elder gods still have hold of my chains of chaos… I cannot revive you" Skotos stretched his arms forth, took hold of Hades' feet, and begged further. "Hades please, I cannot allow that grimmy bastard to wed Fotia. I'd never forgive myself if it were to happen!". Hades shook his feet, freed it from Skotos' grasp, and said, "No matter how much you beg, I cannot do as you have asked." Skotos picked himself from the ground and with a heavy heart, he headed towards the giant golden doors. As soon as he shut the door behind him, he felt a hand on his forearm. Someone pulled him aside and took him to the maze in the garden. It was Loki; the god of mischief. "What do you want Loki, I have no time for merriment right now." He said with a gloomy voice. "Oh, Skotos I'm quite sure you'll want to hear this. It's about your reincarnation." As soon as Skotos heard the word reincarnation, the color came back to his face. He took hold of Loki, saying, "Continue!" "As you know I have the ability to put anyone under contracts, even gods. So if a god was to agree to trade something of equal value with me, I could restore his or her life" Without taking a spare moment to think, Skotos jumped at the idea and urged him to tell him more. "For your life, I want two things. One, you choose to be reincarnated as a mortal, and two, you must relinquish your claim to the dark throne" A little hesitation crossed his mind but to see Fotia, he didn't care if he was a god or not. He accepted Loki's proposal and he started the incantation. Hades noticed his Skotos' name was slowly fading off the death register. He burst out of the throne room and circled the castle before noticing the beam of light that was coming from the garden. He ran as fast as he could but by the time he got there, the spell was complete, Skotos had been reincarnated. "Do you have any idea what you've done Loki!" Skotos shouted. With a large menacing grin across his face, Loki responded, saying, "Oh trust me, I'm well aware". Meanwhile, in the Realm beneath the skies, an equally intriguing tale was unfolding. Jamie Kavanaugh was the oldest descendant of the new generation of the Kavanaugh clan and was next in line to seat on the seat of Zenno. Innis Keagan was beauty personified and was very powerful, maybe even more powerful than he was. She was perfect and he wanted nothing more than to be with her but their love was unacceptable because she was the daughter of the current Critineborn Alpha; Lyren Keagan. The Moonborn were a pack of werewolves descended from the original Therianthropes that roamed the earth in the past while the Critineborn were a pack of humans who were cursed by the Shadow King and forced to roam the land as Lycans for all of eternity. During power struggles for superiority, hatred grew between both factions. "We can't keep running like this, Innis," Jamie whispered, his voice laced with desperation. "We have to find a way to be together without hiding in the shadows." Innis sighed, resting her head on Jamie's shoulder. "I know, but it's not that simple. Our packs would never accept us, and if we were caught together, we'd be punished severely, maybe even banished. We have to be careful." "We can't keep living like this," Jamie said, his voice cracking. "I love you, Innis. I can't bear the thought of being without you." Innis's heart ached at the pain in Jamie's voice. She knew exactly how he felt because she felt the same way. "I love you too, Jamie," she whispered, taking his hand in hers. "But we have to be patient. We'll find a way to be together, I promise." Just then, they heard the sound of footsteps approaching. Innis's heart skipped a beat as she looked up at Jamie with fear and desperation in her eyes. They had been caught! "Jamie, what are you doing here with a bloody Citirineborn?" a voice boomed from the shadows. It was one of the Moonborn guards on patrol, a stern-looking werewolf named Garrett. Innis' mind raced as she tried to think of a way to explain their presence. Before she could say anything, Jamie stood up, his jaw set in determination. "We're in love, Garrett," he said, his voice strong and unwavering. "And we won't let anyone keep us apart. We'll face whatever punishment comes our way, as long as we can be together." Garrett looked at the two of them in disbelief. "What nonsense!" he said, his voice laced with disgust. "How dare you stoop so low as to fraternize with a lowly Critineborn." "I don't care," Jamie said, pulling Innis by her hand to stand up beside him. "We love each other and that's all that matters. We'll find a way to make it work." Garrett looked at the two of them for a long moment in anger before opening his mouth once again. "I won't let you tarnish our name!" Garrett shouted. Discolored brown fur emerged from Garrett's skin, he burst towards them and tried to claw Innis but Jamie transformed and sliced upon his chest. Despite his wound, he went in for another swing but this time, Jamie gave him more than a scratch. He took hold of Garrett's neck and snapped it clean. Having committed murder, all that was left for the two forbidden teenage lovers were to flee Otuthra through the Realm gate. That was the only way they could avoid execution. Innis ran home and gathered any of her belongings that could fit in a satchel, while Jamie on the other hand didn't even bother packing anything, he was worried that they'd have noticed Garret's disappearance and would start asking questions. So instead he went to the realm gate and awaited her arrival. When she arrived, she had in her possession a Realm stone; an object that gave the holder the ability to travel through the Realm gate. As they approached the gate, hand in hand, there heard a subtle rustling from the bushes. From the cover of night, Artur Kavanaugh; one of the Alpha's sons, stepped out of the bushes and said, "Where do you think you're going, Jamie" Jamie stepped forward and stood as a barrier between him and Innis. "I'm just patrolling the area" "Oh, really you're just patrolling. If so then why the hell are you buddy-buddy with that Critineborn scum" "Don't you dare call her that! And why does what I do matter so much to you anyways huh?" "Oh nothing, I was just wandering in the woods and I happened to come across Garrett's cold corpse in the woods. Now that I see you and your little girlfriend, I understand why you killed him" "You have no proof of that and besides, how do you even know that I saw Garrett today?" Jamie kept moving farther and farther away from him but he kept on walking closer. "I know because I was the one who ordered him to follow you around!" shouted Arthur. Arthur started unbuttoning his shirt and unzipping his trousers. "Arthur you don't have to do this," said Jamie. "Actually I do!" said Arthur. Silver-colored fur flowed from his pores and his bone structure grew and reshaped itself…. He transformed into a Lycan. He lunged at Jamie and grabbed him by the neck. Innis tried to transform and stop him but he smacked her across the opening, right into a tree. Jamie was furious and tried to awaken but Arthur stabbed him in the abdomen with tree debris. Jamie looked towards Innis who was just recovering from the hit and said, "Innis jump through that portal now." "I can't leave you. I refuse to" "They won't kill me but they'll kill you, so go. Right now!" Tears rolled down Innis' face and it pained her heart to leave him like that but she knew what he said was right. She got up as quickly as she could, grabbed the Realm stone, and started sprinting toward the portal. Arthur wanted to stop her, but Jamie bit into his arm and held him back. As she was about to leap into the portal. A Grey colored wolf leaped out of the woods and tackled her. A man in a red and black cloak came out from the woods too. His name was Anos Yerene; the Judiciary head of the Moonborn pack. "NO!" Jamie shouted. "Love can be sickening at times, can't it? Make sure not to hurt her, we don't want to start another war" Anos said. "Anos, order Elaine to let go of her right now or else!" "Or else what, you seem a little too tied up to hurt me so," said Anos. "I'm the next Alpha. When that happens, what do you think will happen to you huh? What will the Alpha and my father say about you harassing me in the forest" asked Jamie. "You're right, I can't have the next Alpha hating me. I should probably do something about that," said Anos. Elaine the grey Lycan and Arthur asked Anos simultaneously, "What are we gonna do to them? We should probably take both of them to Bearach right?" Anos moved closer to Jamie and said, "We can't have that either" From his belt strap, he pulled out a Soul blade and Impaled both Arthur and Jamie with it. He then swiveled around and threw a dagger into Elaine's head, leaving only Innis alive. Innis let out a loud scream and ran towards Jamie. She tried to stop his bleeding but the Soul blade went through his heart and in a matter of seconds he was dead. Anos left Innis in the woods and returned to the Moonlands, where he deceived the Alpha and Jamie's father. He told them that while he was trying to bring Jamie home, Innis backstabbed him and killed his son, Elaine, and Jamie. Bearach Kavanaugh; the alpha, couldn't believe what Anos had said. He went into the wood to see the bodies for himself. When he got there he saw Arthur, Jamie, and Elaine lying dead on the floor. Luckily, a Critineborn guard found Innis weeping beside the bodies and took her out of the Moonborn Territory before Bearach arrived. Bearach was filled with hate more than ever before, so he rushed over to the Critineborn territory and barged into the castle. A brutal fight ensued between Lyren and Bearach with both sides taking heavy damage. In the end, Bearach claimed Lyren's soul leaving the Critineborn without a leader. Filled with anger towards the Moonborn for taking her love and her father from her on the same night, Innis Keegan swore that no matter the cost, she would burn the world to the ground.
