Chapter 24When the doorbell rang, Oscar glanced up from the computer. Before answering, he peeked out the window. It was Karen. She looked drawn.
He opened the door and stretched out his arms to her. She stepped in. They hugged.
“What happened?” It had been weeks. “You don’t answer your phone anymore? I’ve been worried.”
“I needed some time. There’s something we have to talk about.”
“Come in.” He gestured to the couch. They walked there. She sat.
“Can I get you something to drink?” He asked.
“A little water, please.”
He went to the kitchen and prepared a tall glass of ice water. Coming back to Karen, he set the glass on the coffee table in front of her and took a seat beside her.
