GOOSEBUMPS
Stars appeared as little diamonds stones against the pitch black blanket of the sky.Now and then the hoot of an owl would be heard , or the indistinct bark of a stray dog , or the blaring horns of vehicles, as their impatient owners pressed without respite , till their gates were opened for them.
The night was in truth starry enough, for anyone to make out the image of the teenage girl , that hurled herself into a tight ball against the tree's bark , which happened to be the slightest comfort she could afford , that peaceful night.
"So , why me , God , I thought you claim to love me , do you really still keep your words ? No , you seem to have had a change of words in that book " The teenage girl stuttered amidst violent sobs
"God, so it seems like you have totally forgotten what you said , about always being with me even till the ends of the earth" She said having a respite from lamenting, which enhanced her sobs.
"Okay so what about you, Jesus , so where's this love you spoke so much of , where's that love , when I need it s-s-so badly now " She managed to complete her statement, but was not allowed the pleasure of lamenting further.
The silvery black Honda , camouflaged easily with the dark surroundings. It halted just few feet away from the tree, she was feeding her tales of woe to. It was certainly the loud bang of the car's door , which was done on purpose by the owner, that helped snap her out of her reverie.
"I have nothing, sirs, you can as well end me so I can escape this..." She was interrupted by the voice, the voice that sent explosion of goosebumps all around her sensitive skin. Every strand of hair on her body was alert and ready to battle any form of threat as they stood erect on her skin.
"Sorry, what were you you saying, and what's a young gal like you doing out here all by herself, at this unholy hour " the baritone voice spoke sending shivers down her spine.
"Won't he , just make it a very easy death for me , hmm so must I die with reminders of my present predicament" Shirley thought once more to herself.
"Hello, can you hear me " the stranger said as a means of cutting through the thick silence between them .Then He changed his approach, by waving his hands in front of her as he tried using sign language, to communicate what he had said seconds earlier.
" Am I so pathetic ! " She said aloud finally.
There was a note of victory, satisfaction, somewhat mixed with confusion on the strangers face .
~~~~~~
Both seemed to be engulfed in their own thoughts. The silence ensued for a while till the stranger interceded once again.
~~~~~~
"So , back to the questions I asked earlier, who are you ? , why are you here ? alone ? at this time ? " The stranger asked all at once
She just kept staring into the pair of mesmerizing eyes in front of her , she was surprisingly flabbergasted by the beauty in those eyes, although she could hardly tell if they were black or something else.
"Am I disturbing you ?..." He was interrupted.
"Yes , sir exactly you're disturbing, right now, I don't wish to see the face of any other person " Shirley said, with so much gusto, surprising even herself , considering the fact that she hadn't eaten anything the whole day.
"Hmmmmmmm , so am disturbing, you really feel my presence here is disturbing to you" He said again.
"You're right again, don't you have something to get on with , I mean , am here , you can as well, kill me once and for all , then ..." Shirley was stopped immediately by him.
"Jesus Christ ! How can you say such things, whatever could have happened to a young girl like you, that would make you give me, a total stranger a free pass to end your life " He said then sat down on one of the exposed roots of the tree beside her.
"Please, I've heard that name enough already! " She said covering her ears with her hand "See , sir if you didn't come to end me and my misery, you can as well LEAVE !"
" Leave ! I should leave you all alone , so you can go and do something about your death wish! , certainly not " Sean said matter-of- factly "you're coming home with me , I'm leaving , but only with you " He said with a tone of finality in his voice.
"I'm done talking sir " Shirley said , keeping mute afterwards.
"Good , because, the conversation was unfruitful anyways, so if you wouldn't let me take you to my home ,perhaps I can drop you of at yours " He replied, anticipating her response.
" So, are you ready? " He asked again after the silence became unbearable
Sean , yes , is a gentleman and does act very gentlemanly, but not in all cases , especially during a crucial and delicate case, such as this, involving the life and perhaps salvation of a soul.
His next line of action caught her unawares, as he swiftly picked her into his hands as though she weighed next to a feather.
"Drop me ! " Shirley shrieked disturbing the calmness of the night with her high pitched voice, nonetheless, Sean just carried her silently to the car , then placed her inside. He, walked over to the driver's side and got in .
"So you claim , you don't want to kill me , but here you are, k********g me , please if that's your intention, drop me , because I can assure you, no one is going to place a call across to you" Shirley said, just as the goosebumps resurfaced on her skin.
The extremely cold interior simply worsened it, as Sean had the air conditioner on the highest. Sean , just kept mute , all through her different outbreaks of crying and punching the car seat while muttering unintelligible things.
