CHAPTER 1: Birthday Party
*Audrey* I stared out of the window to look at the evening sky and was amazed at how early the moon displayed its brilliance. Maybe it's because the pack is having a party tonight, so the Moon Goddess decides to pour her blessings on us. John is having his twenty-fourth birthday party tonight, and almost everyone in the pack will be attending. He's a very popular person in the pack, due to his caring character, and always trying to assist everyone he comes across. The first time I met him was six months ago when he came to visit our side of the pack. Claire, my best friend, introduced him to me. I never thought there could be a man as beautiful as a lady, until I saw him. His face is as smooth as a newborn baby, his chestnut colored hair flowing with the wind, his jawline chiseled out, his green eyes so captivating and alluring, making you feel like you could fall deep and never come out, his nose straight and sharp, asking for a love bite, his red lips so smooth and enticing that you could kiss and never get tired. Gosh! I could feel my throat getting dry as I continued to stare at him, wishing I could be his true mate. Tonight is his birthday and I don't even have any pretty dress to wear. "Audrey" My thoughts paused as I heard Claire shouting my name from outside the house. I know she's here to prep me for the birthday event. Standing up from the couch, I walked towards the door to open it for her. "Hey best friend", I smiled at her with my lips almost reaching my cheek, trying to hide my worried face, hoping she wouldn't notice that something was wrong. "What's wrong with you?" "Nothing. Why do you think something is wrong with me? Nothing is wrong with me. I'm certain of it." She looked at me with a sarcastic expression that said 'I know you're lying'. "Audrey, I know you very well and one trait you have is saying unnecessary details when you lie. So, what's wrong?" I sighed, releasing a breath I wasn't aware of holding, "I don't have any dress to wear for the party tonight" "What! But why? I thought you went shopping the other time?" "I did, but I used the money for something else, so I couldn't get the dress" I said the last part with a small voice and lowered my head like a child caught stealing candy. I knew Claire must be very disappointed, so I raised up my head to look at her and I saw her shaking her head as she continued to stare at me. I knew it, I must have been a very big disappointment to her. "Come", Claire said as she reached out to hold my hand and dragged me out of the house. "Where are we going?" "We are going shopping" "Shopping!" I paused. "But I don't have any money with me." "I'll take care of it." "You don't have to…" I wanted to say, but Claire cut me off. "I don't want to hear any of your excuses. Let's go." "Thanks a lot Claire" "Haven't I told you to stop with the formalities already? We're family, so no need for thanks. Let's go" She waved her hand, not interested in accepting my gratitude. My gaze softened, and I paused a bit to appreciate Claire's kindness in my heart. Seeing her turning her back to look at me, I reacted quickly and hastily followed behind her as we headed out for the market to shop for our dresses. Claire has always been a good friend to me, right from childhood. Her mom accepted me into their home when I lost my parents at the age of eight. Since then, I've taken Claire to be my big sister. I always hope not to disappoint her or make her feel embarrassed by any of my actions, but yet I end up doing almost the opposite of everything I intended not to do, putting her in conflicting situations. But never has she ever complained. I really thank the Moon Goddess for giving such a wonderful person as a best friend. We stopped a taxi and went inside, and Claire gave the driver directions to the mall we were going to. The taxi driver stopped at the busy street of the city, and we alighted from the cab. I turned around and was shocked to see myself standing in the front of Dynasty mall. 'Why are we here?' I asked my inner self. I turned to stare at Claire, and she was already walking to the entrance of the mall. I quickly hastened my steps to reach up to approach her. On reaching where she was, I asked immediately, "Claire, why are we here?" Claire stared at me like I was a clown, "We're here to buy a dress." "I know we're here to buy a dress, but why are we at Dynasty mall?" I asked with a puzzled expression. Claire just rolled her eyes at me and continued to walk forward. As we entered the mall, I stared at the astonishing beautiful interior with wide open eyes. All the dresses placed outside are stunningly beautiful. I saw different people with great personalities checking through the different dresses and my eyes drooped down a bit, as I felt out of place in such an environment. "Good day miss, and welcome to Dynasty mall. How may I assist you today?" One of the mall assistants approached us with a broad smile on her face. Seeing the smile plastered on her face seemed to clear out my air of frustrations, placing a smile on my own face. Claire walked up to her with a smile and answered, "We need a dress for her", she gestured her finger towards me. "Okay miss, please come this way with me" The mall assistant gestured towards us and walked ahead with us following behind her. "Do you have a preference miss?" The mall assistant glanced at me. "Not really, anything is fine" I answered her with a smiling face, twisting my clothes with anxiety, hoping she wouldn't bring out something expensive. "Ok, miss. What do you think of this?" The assistant brought out a green sapphire dress with glitters all around it. I paused straight, staring intently at the beautiful dress. I've never seen any dress as beautiful as this one before. But the price tag was an exorbitant amount. Turning my head to glance at Claire, I saw her also starring closely at the dress, and I noticed a sharp glint passing through her eyes or maybe I saw wrong, so I was expecting her to reject it.
