Savannah’s POV
“This won’t do. We have to do something!” Tia said, for the hundredth time or so in the past fifteen minutes that she had been in my room. The first time she said it, I was hopeful that my awesome best friend was going to whip up one of her crazy plans to deal with Xavier any moment now. But minutes passed by and she just kept walking to and fro while biting her nails. The only things that happened so far was her almost wearing down the plush red carpet in the room with her pacing and her repeated declarations of how we were supposed to do something. Don’t I know that, girlfriend?
“Have you got any ideas yet?”
I looked up to see her staring at me expectantly as if waiting for me to reveal my grand plan to deal with the mess that was the stupid bond I had with the f*****g dragon prince.
“Ah, right. I have this fantastic plan that would send Xavier right to the middle of the Earth with no memories of me and our damn bond,” I deadpanned.
“Really?” Tia perked up and looked at me waiting for me to explain my master plan. Really, Tia?
“No,” I said simply and she visibly deflated.
“Bummer! Sending him to Earth sounded so cool. It’s a pity you can’t really do it…”
I watched as an evil light entered her eyes and knowing my bestie, something was cooking in her crazy head. Something I wasn’t going to like.
“Who said we can’t really do it? I am already trying to learn to create portals anyway. I am a High witch and you are the Drakonian princess. If anyone could do it, it would be us. Let’s do it girl. Let’s send the stupid dragon to Earth and be done with him!” Tia announced gleefully and I stared at her, waiting for her to burst out laughing and say that she was kidding. But when she continued to stare at me with a proud look, I realised that she wasn’t kidding. She was really planning to send the freaking Dragon prince to Earth. And I thought I was crazy. Go figure…
“Tia, do you seriously think that’s a solution to our problem?”
She narrowed her eyes at me and I sighed as the familiar stubborn look entered those blazing eyes.
“Why not? He said you will suffer if he dies but if we kick him out of the world, the problem is solved, right? If he is not here, the bond may fade like it was when we were on Earth. With him out of the picture, you can live happily with your dream guy. Just think Savannah, this is the perfect solution for this problem!”
“If only it was that easy, Tia… Getting him out of this world, as ridiculous as it sounds, is not a solution at all. For one thing, the bond has already deepened and I don’t think sending him off to Earth is going to reverse it as you think. And more importantly, Xavier is not a nobody whom we can do whatever we want to. He is the freaking dragon prince and if we even touch a single hair on his head, it will be war.”
I rubbed my forehead to ease the throbbing headache and looked at Tia who was pouting at me.
“Don’t even think about it, you crazy woman. Everyone knows he is in our realm and even if someone else harms him, the dragon king will hold us responsible. Don’t get me wrong. I would love to kick some sense into that asshole’s head. But it will be in our best interests to have Xavier here without even a scratch on his pampered prince self.”
“You are no fun, girl! What are our damned powers for if we can’t use it for anything good?” Tia grumbled, looking like a toddler whose candy was snatched away. I looked away from her before I would blurt something that would make me end up with green hair or something equally nasty. Tia was a force to be reckoned with when pissed off and having powers on top of her infamous redhead temper was not helping.
“Alright. So no portal for the overgrown lizard dude. Then what are we going to do?” Tia sighed and I bit my lips. We were back to square one again…
“I don’t know Tia. I don’t know. But we have to do something and that too soon because being in this room, away from my man is just about killing me. I can’t go on like this…”
Tia walked over to me and held my hand as determination flashed through her eyes. I knew that look better than she herself did and I knew what it meant. Tia has just made this a personal challenge. A heavy weight lifted off my chest knowing that once my bestie wants something done, she will find a way. I would just have to trust her and us. We will figure it out…
“We are going to win this fight. I know we will,” she said, cementing my thoughts and I smiled at her. Yes, we will…
Just as she finished her dramatic declaration, she started pacing back and forth again while chewing her nails and I raised my brows. There she goes again.
After a few minutes of frantic pacing, Tia turned to me and I braced myself, waiting for her to say we have to do something. Again.
“I know what to do!” she shouted excitedly and I blinked, trying to process her words.
“You do?”
She nodded excitedly before clapping her hands in glee.
“It is so simple and obvious that I wonder why we hadn’t thought of it in the first place. Oh yes, this is so going to work! I am a freaking genius!”
“Care to share your awesome plan with me too, genius?” I asked with a roll of my eyes and Tia stuck her tongue out at me. We are adults, aren’t we? Well, could you blame me if I have doubts?
“Just think Savannah. What exactly is the problem here?”
Huh? Weren’t we over this a hundred times already?
“Humor me, will you?”
Alright…
“Well, I have a mate whom I love and we are going to have a baby. But there is this dragon prince who popped up claiming that I am a Drakonian princess and he is my betrothed. That just about sums it up, doesn’t it?”
“Right. A man who is ready to snatch you away from your mate even though you are pregnant. What exactly would be his motive here if we ignore the stupid bond?”
“Uhm. The bond isn’t a thing to be ignored but if you insist, okay. And yes, maybe he wants me because of my power?”
“That and also because you are beautiful, girl. A powerful, beautiful woman who belongs to him as per the blood oath. He is willing to forget the fact that you are having a baby with another man and is waiting to make you his.”
I flinched at her announcement and frowned at her.
“Why are we talking about all this again?”
“Patience is a virtue, my friend.”
“A virtue that I have lost ages ago. Just tell me what is going on inside that crazy head of yours, will you?”
“Alright. So if what Xavier wants is a gorgeous, powerful woman, why not give him one?”
“Huh?” I asked oh so eloquently.
Tia rolled her eyes at me, but deigned to enlighten me anyway.
“See, the bond is having more effects on him than you because you are already in love with your man. According to him, the bond will increase until you both can’t think of anything but the bond. But if we nip it off the bud, maybe it will never reach that stage?”
I just blinked at her, unable to process what she was hinting at.
“So what we are going to do is, make Xavier be in the same condition as you. Utterly in love with someone else so that he would forget the damn bond and if both of you decide to ignore it, maybe you can overcome it together?”
Wait, what?
“We are going to find a powerful, beautiful woman to woo him. A woman with the added bonuses of her being interested in him unlike you and with her having no responsibilities like having another man or baby. Then Xavier would think that running behind you is foolish when he could simply have her. Isn’t this brilliant?”
I looked at her blankly for a moment, and the smile faded from her face.
“No?” she asked, not so sure anymore.
A smile slowly crept onto my face as I thought it over.
“Oh yes. I think this is going to work. You are a genius, Tia!”
“That I already know!”
Then we both stared at each other with huge smiles before letting out girly shrieks of triumph. I didn’t know whether I should be glad or worried about my security when no one came barging into the room to inquire about the ruckus we had created. Maybe they had gotten used to our weirdness already? Oh well, whatever!
Once the giddiness wore off, I realised that this half-baked plan was not as easy as it sounded.
“Um, we have got a problem,” I announced.
“Now what?” Tia asked, unwilling to come off her high at solving the problem.
“Well. Where are we going to find a girl that could make Xavier leave me alone? I mean, he is a dragon prince and he must be used to gorgeous women falling all over him. So we need a girl who is special enough that Xavier will have no option other than to fall for her…”
Tia pouted as she processed my words.
“You are right, damn it. We need a gorgeous girl with power rivaling you. But you are the freaking drakonian princess. How can someone rival that power?! And even if we manage to find someone, why will they decide to help you and go to the trouble of wooing an asshole like him?”
With that, she resumed her pacing and this time, instead of chewing her nails, she started tossing fireballs left and right. I watched as the fireballs disintegrated in the air before they could touch anywhere. And she was doing it absentmindedly without even focusing on it. Wait…
I looked at Tia, and a smile, which most probably looked creepy, formed on my face.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” She asked warily when she saw the look on my face and she had every right to, considering the evil plan that was forming in my head.
“I know the perfect candidate for the job,” I announced gleefully.
“You do? That’s great! What are we waiting for then? Let’s go to the girl and ask her!”
“Well, the girl already knows everything. She just has to say yes,” I replied cryptically, and Tia looked at me with narrowed eyes.
“Who is this girl again?”
“You, of course,” I replied casually and Tia’s eyes just about popped out of their sockets.
“Me? What?!! Are you crazy?”
“Just think it through, Tia. Who else would help me other than you, my darling bestie?” I gave her my most pitiful puppy eyes for good measure and did a mental victory dance when I saw her shoulders sagging in defeat.
“Even if I want to do it, I don’t think I am the right person for it, Savannah. I mean, we are talking about a girl gorgeous enough to rival you. Not someone like me.”
I stared at her as if she had grown a second head. Since when was my Tia insecure like this?
“What are you talking about, woman? Or are you fishing for compliments here?” I asked, and she rolled her eyes at me. Now that was more like it.
“We are talking about a powerful woman to catch his interest and who else could fit the bill other than a high witch with power enough to change the entire politics of the witchler realm? One who could very well end up being the next leader of the witch council?”
“But…”
“And don’t even start about looks. You are gorgeous and you know it.”
“If he is into freckles and short, curvy redheads, sure…” she said, rolling her eyes. Again!
“Just shut up, girl. Take this while you get the chance because you know I am not one to dish out compliments. You are one of the prettiest women I have ever seen, with your striking green eyes and gorgeous red hair. Not to mention your bubbly personality that makes you all the more pretty. If he doesn’t fall for you, I don’t think he will fall for anyone else. It’s you, Tia. Please…”
I batted my lashes at her, and she groaned.
“But he is an asshole!”
“Well, he is a gorgeous asshole, isn’t he? And you don’t have to fall for him, really. You just have to act and make him fall for you…”
“You are going to be the death of me…” she mumbled, and I cheered, knowing Tia had just agreed to my absurd demand.
“It’s all an act,” she declared, and I nodded vehemently.
“Alright, Mr. Lizard. Game on!” Tia announced with determination, and I smirked. Oh, poor Xavier, you have no idea what is going to hit you. Just you wait!
