Chapter Thirty-Two It was like a whirlwind had blown in here, knocked everything onto the floor, and left. My mind reeled. Did I dare to hope that I could get out of here? It was surreal, but I had to make sure I was in position when he came back — if he came back — so I used the bathroom and climbed into bed as if nothing had changed, leaving my shoes on. I hoped no one saw Braydac appear in my room. Once the light was off, my brain was flooded with doubts. What if he didn’t come back? What if someone saw him on camera? What if the camera could pick up our conversation, even through the closed door? What if something went wrong and we didn’t make it out of here? What would be my punishment? I had to stop myself. Those thoughts weren’t helpful. I tried to relax and slow my breathing.
