Getting to know Deacon

2133 Words
As we left Roman after he said he had some things he wanted to do, we turned toward the house in relative silence. I was unsure why when it was the three of us conversation seemed to flow so simply, but now that I had made this bold move I became nervous. Deacon was not much better, feeling slightly tensed where we were connected to each other. I wanted to hear all about Deacon, the real him, but I was worried because I did not remember all of my life before this and I could not reciprocate with those same things. I am unsure how Deacon figured out what worrying me, but he stopped our walking back to the apartment and turned me to look at him. When he did I saw something in his eyes, understanding, kindness, and what I believed could be love. "Isla, don't be so wrapped up in the how and why, just try and be open to it all. Things will come back, or they won't, but they doesn't change how I feel for you." He explained, as he wrapped his arms around my waist, his hands resenting low at the small of my back. The intimate embrace had me resting my hands on his chest, looking up into his eyes and he slowly brought his forehead down to mine. We stood for some time just breathing each other in, comforted in the closeness and happy to be here. Once we were both more comfortable we continued our walk back to the apartment. As we reached the apartment building we saw some others leaving from across the street and Deacon held us back, like he did not want to be seen by them. Again, seeming to read my mind, he told me that if I could not remember my past meeting some of the others from the building would not be a good idea, there is no telling what could trigger memories good or bad coming back and we do not want to trigger the wrong things first. I felt like there was more to it, but I did not press him, since I did not think he would be holding back something unless it would be harmful to me. I realized how much trust I had in him, and Roman. Finally they were gone and we were able to continue on our trip up to the apartment. "Go change into something comfy, and get some snacks. I'll be right back." I told Deacon, turning toward my room. He just smiled at me and did the same. I knew I wanted something comfy for an evening of cuddling, but I still wanted to look kind of cute. I threw my hair up in a messy bun, changed into a tank top that showed some cleavage but mostly was just comfortable, and some pajama shorts, that were just a little on the short side. I knew it was a bit overkill, but I did want to feel if I could make him want me for more than just being close to. Worried however that I would be cold I pulled on a pair of fuzzy socks, because they always seem to help. Heading to the living room though, I realized being cold would not be possible. There sat Deacon, in nothing but a pair of loose shorts, with one foot up on the rest in front of him and his head back with his eyes closed. As I approached he opened his eyes and turned to me, for a moment I could have sworn his eyes changed, darkened, but I brushed it off. This man looked like he could have been carved from marble, everything on him chiseled and perfectly sculpted. Catching my gaze he smirked, before patting the couch beside him. "This is what you pick when I saw something comfy?" I ask as I sit down next to him, one knee tucked under me and my elbow on the back of the couch. I am turned facing him, and have gestured with a nod. He grins from ear to ear before telling me he could say the same thing. "You went as close to nothing as you could as well missy, besides, no, this was not my first choice when you said comfy but I figured it was too soon to just strut around naked." He finished with a wink, which had me turned every shade of red in the book. I rolled my eyes trying to get back some level of control, but I could not help but appreciate this side of Deacon. He is always so much more serious when Roman is around, now he is smiling and flirty, not something I expected. I started to see glimpses of a man I could not help but to fall for, he knew when to be serious and when to be lighthearted. Catching me still checking him out he grinned, then broke me from my gaze when he spoke. "So, where do you want to start?" "Can you tell me how we met? I assume we didn't all just wake up one day fully grown and galavating the world together." I asked, mostly sure there was more to it than that. He chuckled and shrugged before answering me. "Yes and no, actually. I don't think any of us remember our creation, that would be weird, and we don't have the same childhood that humans have, but we do have various stages of our understanding. As you become stronger, more knowledgeable, your appearance will shift as well. Take Mags for example, you assumed her to be old because of her hair, and you're right, she is, but we all are. In truth what sets her apart is her knowledge, acceptance and strength. She holds more power than us, which means she appears as a wiser version of us." He explained to me, which did make sense. The preconceived notion that someone being older makes them wiser, it was really just how our bodies showed that experience. "As for how we all met, it was through Roman, and you, and a fight. Beyond what we can do we are also fierce warriors for our kind, and you and Roman somehow had picked the same target, and decided the best way to settle it was to fight for it." He laughed as he explained the moment to me. "I don't remember the guy, or the situation anymore, it was so long ago, but I do remember that it became the first time we all worked together. After that it was still a few hundred years and a couple more run-ins before we decided to team up. When we did Mags showed up and said 'finally!' I guess she had been waiting for us to figure it out." He shrugged. "So, if I was so close to Roman how did we end up together? I mean you are so stoic usually, keeping things a certain way and always in control." I asked, hoping my perception did not cause him pain. Thankfully, he chuckled and agreed, he definitely kept to himself, and has been still. "When you and Roman were together it was like oil and vinegar, honestly I was not sure what the point of it was. You had different personalities, different goals, even your abilities didn't compliment each other." He explained, but before he continued he brought his hand to my cheek. His touch felt warm and comforting. "This right here is what changed it all, when I was at my lowest point you and Roman had to hunt me down. You two had already agreed that you were better as friends, and sometimes it seemed like you two were the siblings, not him and I. Then when you found me your touch awoke something in me, reminding me that I wanted to be more than pain and suffering. Once I had recovered you brought something new out in me, I was more like that knucklehead of a brother, and we all became a strong team." I could feel unshed tears welling in my eyes, but all I could do was offer a weak smile as I put my hand against his on my cheek. Bit by bit I could feel the walls around my mind coming free, things were becoming more clear, not so much memories but understanding and comfort. I know he could see it happening as well, I felt like parts of who I am were being Reborn with each thing he said. I wanted all of it, to know everything and to be back to myself, and know what was next in our journey. Suddenly, I felt like my skin was charged with electricity. The feeling shocked me and I jumped up, I was unsure if the feeling was painful or just shocking, which made me giggle to myself for the pun. Deacon rose as well looking over me then grabbing my hand and bringing me to the balcony, before he opened the door he looked back and smiled to me. I was unsure when it had started raining, but as he pulled me out into the rain the feeling of the droplets on my skin was euphoric and painful all at once. I gasped at the feeling, but then something else took over, I felt how close Deacon was and I turned around to face him. My hands where on his chest, his held me by the hips, pulled close to him. This action seemed to eat up the pain from the charge in the air and just leave me with the euphoric feeling on my skin. Where his hands were touching me, having snuck under the bottom of my shift, the feeling of his skin on mine felt like a surge or power. The same seemed to happening to him where my hands were on his chest. With my eyes closed and my face facing up into the sky I heard the crash of thunder and it was like the sky opened up more above us. The rain pounded down on us and all I could do was laugh at the feeling, it was like I was coming alive again. As I looked back into his eyes Deacon smiled to me the rested his forehead against mine. "Welcome back Isla." He whispered to me. I still did not remember it all but something definitely felt different. I smiled at him before licking my lips as I glanced between his and his eyes. With a c***k of lightning he crashed his lips to mine, bring a new sense of life to me. It was like his kiss brought me power and an urge to shed away the memories of my human life. I knew now I could not be bound by those few years as a human because this creature in front of me was more than a just a love, he is the other half of my being. Our moment on the balcony was interrupted by the doors being thrown open and Roman running out. The smile on his face told me he knew what had happened. I smiled at him but he was not happy with just a smile. He pulled me from Deacons arms and lifted me into the air in a bear hug. Spinning me around and laughing at how excited we all were at that moment. When he put me back on my feet we all just stood in the rain smiling and laughing. I am not sure why it felt so freeing but it was like something had changed in me, my body felt new and I felt like everything I saw had a new amount of colour to it. After some time we went back in and changed into something not soaking wet, and the three of us tore into our snacks. I gave Roman a hard time about crashing our night to ourselves but he said it was our fault for triggering my charge. Looking at him with my eyebrows knit together he laughed, which made Deacon chuckle and poke my forehead. "What else did you think that was Isla? The gods felt your body was ready to receive your power back and if they can't make a show of it then where is the fun?" Roman said. "They literally opened up the heavens and power rained down so you could get your strength back. Now we are in a place to get down to some real business." He added, with a smirk. "Tonight we rest, eat, chill and sleep. Tomorrow we are going out and you get to see what you can really do. No more glamours or changing your outfit, now the real fun begins!"
