Chapter 4: Partial Confession

1641 Words
Ginny woke up with nothing more on her mind than planning the day's events when last night's events came rushing back to her. She buried her face in the pillows on her bed. Bri, what am I supposed to do? Ginny whined. Go ask your mate. Bri hummed, quite bratty for first thing in the morning. Ginny sighed and got up. It was best to act like nothing was different for now. She picked up her cell phone and called Rachel. A very grumpy Rachel answered the phone. "Uhg. Do we have to go into town this early?" Rachel grumbled, her voice still full of sleep. "Yes, Rache. Get your lazy ass up and let's go." Ginny growled playfully. Rachel made some grumping noises, but didn't say she was getting up. "Come on, Rachel. You promised." Ginny whined. Rachel still didn't answer. "Fine. I'll buy you a new dress if you come." Ginny said at last. "And??" Rachel suddenly sounded much more chipper. Ginny suspected she had been plenty awake when she called. Ginny sighed, fully defeated. "And I'll let you pick out mine." Rachel squealed and hung up the phone. She was at Rachel's door just a few minutes later, practically bouncing. There was no way she hadn't already been ready. Now Ginny was feeling like going back to bed. "Ooo, I can't wait. There is a new dress shop I just haaaave to show you." Rachel exclaimed. "I thought the dress I had on last night was very practical. I don't see why we have to get a new one." Ginny said as they walked their way down to the front doors. "Yeah, Ginny. It was. Tonight is a party, though. You don't want to look practical. Besides, who wears the same dress two nights in a row?" They left out of the front doors and walked the short distance to the town as they talked. "I don't see anything wrong with being practical." Ginny chided. She had put alot of thought and effort into picking out her dress. She thought she looked just fine. "There will be even more people there tonight. And Maxim will be there waiting to dance with you. I am sure he would rather dance with you all dolled up. Besides, if he isn't your mate it's a good chance to meet yours." At the mention of finding her mate, Ginny's face went deep red and contorted obviously. "Ginny, what is that....oh my gawd." Rachel stopped dead in her tracks and grabbed Ginny by the wrist, stopping her too. "Did you find your mate??" She all but screamed. Ginny rushed to put her hands over her friends mouth until she stopped trying to scream. Ginny made direct eye contact with Rachel and told her not to shout before slowly removing her hands. "What's the big idea?? You found your mate? Who is it?? Do I know him?" Rachel whispered as loud as she possibly could. "Uhg, yeah, well, sort of. I mean, I am sure you know.....them." Ginny wasn't sure she was ready to share the news. She didn't want to tell Rachel only to be rejected later that night. She wasn't sure if Rachel would even believe her. A female mate and the Lycan Alpha. It was all a bit too much to think about. "Oh my gawd! What do you mean sort of? You met them, right? You're mate?! Aren't you excited?" Rachel gushed. Ginny waved her hands hoping she would keep quiet. She didn't want the whole world to know. "Okay! Yes. I met my mate." Ginny tried to say quietly. "Will they be there tonight??" Rachel asked. She was trying hard to contain her excitement, but it was leaking through. Rachel was over the moon and didn't understand why Ginny was trying so hard to hide something so natural. "Yes." Ginny answered, still quiet. Would she, though? It was tradition for the guests of honour to stay both nights, but Leela was very important. She may only have stayed for the Ceremony. Bri tried to assure her that her mate would be there later that night. "Well, then. You have to let me make you up for tonight. You don't want your mate to think he is stuck with this," Rachel gestured to her whole body, "his whole life." Ginny had to laugh. "What do you mean 'all of this.'" She complained. "All I am saying, is that you never pay attention to your looks. It's always go go go. Got to go to training. Got to go to class. Got to organize everything so Griffin doesn't have to do any work himself." Rachel went on. Bother girls laughed. It really was crazy to think Griffin was the alpha now. Most of the organizing would be his Beta's job now. "Let's make your mate drool, tonight." Rachel concluded. She linked arms with Ginny and practically skipped the rest of the way into town. They had a ton of shops to visit to take care of business for tonight. The bakery, the music agency, the grocery store, and a flower shop were at the top of their list. It took most of the morning to make sure every last minute detail was taken care of before they stopped for lunch. They had Rocket Burger for a quick lunch. They ate the flavour packed burgers in a nearby park. There was a mix of wolves and humans going about their lives as the girls ate. It was sunny an beautiful out. Just the right sort of day for shopping in town. "Okay, I promised to join you for all of the boring bits, but can we please go find you a killer fit now?" Rachel begged after popping the last juicy bite in to her mouth. Her blonde curls bouncy as she asked, making Ginny laugh at the sight. "Yeah, Rache. Sure. let's get the worst part over with" Ginny joked to an indignant Rachel. Rachel proceeded to drag Ginny into every available dress shop. Rachel only tried on a few dresses before she picked one out for Ginny to buy for her. She had the packs card to pay with, and had been told it was fine to spend extra on clothes for her and her friend. Christophe really did treat her like a daughter. It took, what felt like, a hundred shops and a million dresses before Rachel was satisfied. She settled on a dewy red off the shoulder dress with a high-low hem. It felt altogether too short in the front, but it did show off her lean legs. It hugged around her waist and accentuated all of her curves in just the right way. Rachel stood behind her and pulled at her hair a few ways until she liked it. "There. If we curl your hair and haul it back like this with...maybe a braid or two...." Rachel trailed off as she started at pulling more hair. "Fine, fine! Whatever you like. Let's just go and get this over with." Ginny exclaimed, laughing. She had to admit, though, the dress did make her look good. Rachel smiled triumphantly. She was going to enjoy a chance to make her bestie up. She would make her mate want to mark her on the spot. Ginny changed out of the dress and paid for it and a pair of shoes Rachel had snuck onto the counter. Who even buys shoes to match one dress? Ginny thought. Do you even own dress shoes? Bri shot back. Ginny could feel her excitement at the thought of attracting Leela and, more importantly, her wolf. Ginny sighed again. She felt like doing that alot that day. When they got back to the pack house, Ginny had to check in with all of the deliveries and the progress of the decorating. The ballroom looked much less formal than last night. There were more streamers and balloons, and most of the tables had been put away with just a few lining the walls. The whole center of the ballroom would be open for dancing by tonight. The new Alpha and a date would start dancing first. The old Alpha, other alphas and the elders would join the floor next. After that it was open for everyone to join. Formal dancing was a big part of her pack, but Ginny never felt she was very good at it. Just as soon as Ginny was sure there was nothing else to check, Rachel rushed her up to her room. She hastily sat Ginny down in a fluffy bean bag chair infront of a huge round mirror she had proposed up in the corner of her room for doing make up at. Rachel tossed a Vogue magazine into Ginny's hands and fussed over her hair until it was a curly mass. She expertly teased and pulled and tucked Ginny's hair until she was satisfied with the result. Ginny flipped absently through the magazine. Next was make-up, which Rachel paid just as much attention to. She used smokey browns and mauve to make Ginny's emerald eyes pop and added a splash of colour to her cheeks. Rachel got ready while Ginny slipped into the dress they had picked up. Ginny turned when she was all ready and took in Rachel's outfit and then her own in the mirror. Rachel had a silky black mermaid dress on with her light blonde hair up in a big princess like ponytail. When Ginny caught herself in the mirror she had to take another look. "That doesn't even look like me!" Ginny exclaimed as Bri was losing it with excitement. "Exactly! You look much better!" Rachel exclaimed, jokingly. Ginny jabbed a finger at her ribs and the two laughed hard. They both looked stunning, thanks to Rachel's good work. Tonight was going to be fun.
