Bella POV
I woke up exhausted. My eyelids felt heavy, my muscles were sore and my eyes literally hurt from the light coming through my window. I had to use all my strength to get up. I put on a dark dress and tied my hair in a ponytail and went downstairs. My father was waiting for me. I could read worry in his eyes so I put on a fake smile and went for a hug.
"Dad, you're home. I missed you so much!" His hug was very strong almost crushing my bones.
"Bells, I was worried sick. What happened to you?"
"It was nothing, dad. I guess I was just exhausted. Nothing that a good night sleep wasn't able to solve." Big, fat lie. I felt horrible.
"I'm glad you are ok. You should get something to eat. I'm sure Maya is waiting for you in the kitchen with some good breakfast."
"Sure, dad."
"I'll be in my office if you need anything, my princess." He kissed my forehead and went.
I didn't feel like eating, so I went and grabbed some orange juice and decided to get some fresh air in the garden. It was sunny outside, little windy, but it felt really nice. I felt like I could have soaked in all the sun. So, I just closed my eyes and enjoyed my sweet juice while birds were singing in our garden.
"I told you Jerry said Charles came home yesterday." I heard someone say. I looked around and William and his friend Gary were walking towards dad's office.
"Are you sure he didn't prank you, again?" Will laughed.
I immediately got to my feet and went their way. My eyes kept focusing on William, memories from my dream last night kept coming back to me. I wanted to hug him now so badly. As I got closer and closer to him, I started to feel little tingles in my breasts and lower. How can one feel such things over somebody unless that person was its soulmate? I looked at the God in front of me and used all my power to contain myself from leaping into his arms.
"Good morning, Will, Gary!" I was only looking at William, obviously.
"Hi Bella!" Will answered. The corners of his mouth went up a little. Wow! He was actually smiling. Was he glad to see me?
"Hey! We heard your dad is home. We have some urgent matter to discuss with him." Gary said, his tone serious.
"Yes, he is home." Gary immediately started to walk towards the office but I had to stop him. "He is currently having breakfast. He came home late last night and was very tired, so he woke up a bit later today." Will was looking at me, clearly reading my life. He just smiled. Again. Wow, my heart started racing.
"It's okay, we are not in a hurry." William said and took a seat on a bench. We had several of those in the garden, we often liked to serve our coffee surrounded by nature.
"So, how did your thing go?" I was very curious to know whether they had a date that day, if they were in such hurry because some girls were expecting them.
"What thing?" Gary looked dumbfounded.
"You know, that thing you had the other day. The date?" This time I looked at Gary, I knew he would be the one to spill the beans.
"It was ni..." Gary started saying but Will cut him off.
"There was no date. Gary and I are single." Gary eyed him as if saying something like 'what the f**k, man' but his mouth stayed shut. My heart though felt like it was going to pop out if my chest. A flicker of hope started forming inside. It won't be long until it will turn into real flames.
"Oh... William... I... I.... wanted to ask you if you... uh..." wanted to be my boyfriend. Well, I didn't quite say that. "I wanted to offer you a cup of coffee."
"We're okay." Gary said. Since we're casually chatting, I wanted to ask you Bella whether there will be another party at the mansion anytime soon. And if there will be any single girls attending." I was taken aback by his question. Maybe that is why Will told me they are single. Maybe he wants me to help them find girlfriends. Disappointment hits me again.
" Well, unfortunately, there will be no party anytime soon. The last one, my father threw it for me and Iris to find boyfriends and things actually worked out for my sister, but I don't think dad will throw another one soon just for me." Will looked at me, as if understanding that I was disappointed. Suddenly, I felt a soft hand touching my chin. Will lifted my chin up. Millions of butterflies flew throughout my stomach, thousands of tingles pierced the skin all over my body. These feelings were so intense they almost hurt.
"Never leave that pretty little face down again." Will looked me in the eye and we stood there looking at each other for a couple of seconds but it felt like an eternity. "Anyway, we have business to attend, we don't have time for parties." He backed off a little bit, composing himself for a bit and his tone changed as well. "Could you check if your father is in the office yet?"
"Sure... I'll go check..." Will turned his back on me, facing his friend now and I knew that our conversation was over. I was aware of the fact that dad was already in his office but I had to pretend to check whether he is there so I headed towards the office.
William POV
How could I have let my guard down so much? My mouth caught me by surprise when saying words like 'pretty little face'. I never compliment women. Even Gary eyed me curiously as if thinking that I totally lost it.
"Man, I gotta say this. You are f****d up! Don't f*****g tell me that you are interested in Davy's daughter." His mouth actually twitched a little bit, I wasn't sure whether he was amused or terrified.
"No, it's nothing like that. I mean, she is pretty..."
"Pretty?" Gary laughed so hard I thought he was going to choke. "Never once, since I met you, have I heard you saying something nice about a woman, let alone that she is pretty. But you are wrong you know, she is actually beautiful." I growled. "Heck, if she weren't Davy's daughter, I would have definitely make my move, if you know what I mean." My nostrils literally flared up.
"Gary..."
"Chill man. I guess this is serious, you really like her. Huh! Who would have thought? The allmighty, cold vampire in love with a witch?"
"I am not..."
"Dad is in his office, you can go see him." Bella cut me off.
"Thank you, Bella." I threw a glare at Gary so he would know to shut up and passed Bella towards the office.
We knocked and entered without waiting for a response. Charles was at his desk, completely absorbed in whatever he was reading. As soon as he saw us, he stood up, as if he were surprised to see us.
"Hey! Good morning! What brings you guys here? Have you got any news for me?"
"We actually have a lead." Charles's eyes lit up, you could really tell he was putting a lot of faith in us. "We paid a visit to the old witch Lana and she gave us a hint on how to begin our quest."
"She just gave you the information? Just like that? You boys should have asked for my help. She ows me. I know she has high fees for her dirty work." Interesting. I wonder how Charles had done for that old hag in the past.
"Everything worked out just fine. Lana gave us the details we needed without too much negotiation."
"We are searching for a book written by John Peters. It is Lana's ancestor and, allegedly, he had knowledge about this proohecy." Gary was very serious, he seemed to want to get to the bottom of this as soon as possible.
"Peters you say? Huh, I have that book, but I had no idea that he was related to that old witch. I must tell you, I have done my research on the subject, but I have not particularly consulted that book. If I just remembered where the heck have I put that f*****g book..." Wow. It was the first time since I have met Davy that I have heard him swear. I watched him as he went to his library and started tossing books all over the place in search for the one we needed. He seemed to lose his patience as his search seemed to be to no avail. He was mumbling something indesciphrable. I looked at Gary who was now confused and approached Charles. I put a hand on his shoulder and he just shaked, seeming very startled.
"Sorry, I got so focused that I just forgot you two were even here." He looked desperate to find that book.
"Why don't you just tell me how you have the books arranged and maybe Gary and I can give you a hand and look for the book ourselves."
"Well, some are arranged historically, some are alphabetically and some are arranged by importance of potions and spells they contain."
"Nice. So you have no idea in which group is this book." Gary said while frowning.
"It doesn't matter, we will find it. Come on, Gary, get to work. I am not paying you to watch me work."
"You don't pay me anything, I am your f*****g partner." I eyed him so he understands already that I only want to ease the tension in the room. Davy was very tensed, desperate even.
We searched for about an hour with no success. I was starting to believe that the book is not even here, in Davy's office. What if he told the truth to Bella, my sweet Bella, and she began her own research and even took the book. I decided to approach the subject with Charles.
"Hey, have you told anything to your daughter about the prophecy?" As soon as I said those words, Davy's face became even darker.
"No, of course not. She is never to know about this. How am I supposed to tell my daughter that a prophecy betrothed her, a beautiful young witch, to a merciless vampire that will marry her by force and use her and her powers to bring chaos among supernatural creatures?" I could swear that a single tear dropped from the corner of his left eye, but I wasn't sure. "Bella needs to have dreams and hopes, she will have to meet a fine, young man that will love and cherish her for the rest of her life. I know she is powerful, maybe the most powerful witch known so far, but those powers need to be used for good, not for petty goals."
"Maybe next time you throw a party for hooking up your girls, you could also consider us and invite some girls for us to meet." Gary was grinning, alreday daydreaming about s*x.
"Man, Charles is not a matchmaker, nor a pimp that can get us girls. Get over yourself!" I barely managed to finish the sentence that I heard Charles gasp.
I looked over at him and he has a grayish book in his hands. It looked very old and fragile. Its cover was missing but I could tell that Davy knew exactly what book it was. He was just holding it as if it were something precious and Gary and I stood there motionless for some time. Streaks of sweat were running on Davy's forhead, anyone could easily tell that he had high hopes. He was scared, his eyes didn't even blink, but his heavy breathing showed his hope and excitement.
"Come on, man! Don't keep us waiting! Is it the THE book?" Gary had little patience, he always had to know everything right away. Sometimes this thing lead to some bad consequences, with him being so impulsive, there were people who would get annoyed with him and give up on our services. Anyway, they would always call us back simce we were the best in the field, so I never tried to change Gary, I just let him be.
"It is." Davy finally spoke. "It has lost its cover but I know it is the book we want. You know what is weird, though? I remember reading this particularly book and I do not recall having anything in it that is remotely related to any prophecy!" I looked at the old man who got a little bit lost in his own thoughts and reached my hand and grabbed the book from his hands.
"A vampire's eyes read differently from a wizard's ones. Not to mention faster." He didn't say anything, he just nodded and waved his hand for me to start reading. At a first skim through the book I did not find anything that could be useful. Just a bunch of stories about how Peters came accross some of the most, powerful potions and licorices in the entire world. I must admit that he had quite a life, went to some amazing, unknown places to find and study some herbs that were believed to be able to create the most powerfull potion in the world. Just a sip of this potion would make the one who drank a powerful and mighty creature. Herbs such as polygrape and abellya were nothing I had ever heard before but Peters devoted his life to find them.
I realised that the guys were watching me intently, waiting for me to say something, hoping I found what we needed.
