Chapter Eight

Chapter Eight  I changed in to my uniform and dragged Kimmy and Kandi out of the staff room and down stairs on my way to start my shift. If I left them to their own devices, they would sleep through their shifts (again) and end up fired. They had been warned more than once about coming to work THIS hung over. But I would bet money on the fact their tiredness was half hang over, half due to the fact they had probably stayed up all night with their boyfriends.  Either way, if Giles found out, he would seriously be up their asses about it. You can't really blame him in that instance, he had given them more than enough chances.  They just never learn.  When we got to the shop floor, we had a quick team meeting so that we were up to date on our daily targets and any important announcements and then went to work. I worked in retail and while it wasn't the best job, that was mainly due to the manager. Over all, it wasn't awful though, and luckily today, I was in my favourite area, the jewellery counter… with Kandi!  I loved working with my friends, it meant in our down time, I had some one to talk to and keep myself entertained… except today, I had a fairly good idea what she would want to talk about..  'So, come on then, spill the tea girl!'she demanded almost instantly. I carried on setting up my station and logged in to my till, playing it cool, I just shrugged.  'There's no "tea" Kand'. I told her.i couldn't really blame her for being curious, this was such an out of character thing for me to do!  'b***h, you spent the night with two guys!! There is more tea there than there is in London, now spill!' I couldn't help but laugh. She came out with the most random things some times. f**k knows where she comes up with them! I signed, giving in.  'Ok, ok. Remember that insanely hot guy I was talking to at the bar?'  'No.. I was out of it' I laughed again, boy that was an under statement.  'Insanely hot, like a model hot!' she shook her head again. I sighed. 'He had green hair?' Realisation crossed her face and she "ohhhh"ed.  'He was HOT!!!!' I nodded.  'I know! Well, I kinda.. went home with him… and… and his boyfriend' her jaw dropped so fast, I'm surprised it didn't make a hole in the floor.  'NO!!!' she shouted. I shhhhh'ed her quickly and looked around, luckily no one seemed to notice.  'Don't be so loud!' I didn't care if some one heard, it was more, I didn't want Giles to come over and burn us for talking about "none work related matters". I walked in to the back room and grabbed a few pairs of earrings. We had some gaps in the display that needed to be filled. Naturally, Kandi followed me.  'You can't just leave it there! Tell me more!' I chucked.  'Theres nothing to tell, we went back to their hotel, we all had s*x together, you know, no biggie'. I think my casualness while telling her only added to the insanity that me, of all people, had done it. Kimmy was the more… sexually adventurous one and she had either NOT done some thing like this before or not told us she had. I walked back out and started entering the details in to the computer and filling the gaps. A customer or two turned up, so that saved me from Kandi's interrogation.  More and more customers turned up and we started to get busy, which I was grateful for. It both saved me from the many… MANY questions but also passed the time quicker.  I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and had to resist the urge to check it. We weren't allowed our phone while we were on shift. I shouldn't even have it now. I guess it was just a force of habit that I put it in my jacket pocket when I changed. I finished helping my customer and went back in to the back room, this time to grab some watches. My phone vibrated again and, against my better judgement, I pulled it out and looked at it.  It was a text (or rather two) .. from Nathan. I couldn't help the big smile that crossed my face. I went to open them and see what he had said when I heard the door unlock and jumped. Panicking. I shoved my phone back in my pocket again and acted normal, looking through the stock. Giles poked his head in and called me out to help with the build up of customers on the tills. I told him "no problem" and headed out again.  Lord, that was a close one! The shop was so busy today, I finished clearing the que on the tills and then more people turned up. It was a good hour before I was back on jewellery again. Today's shift wasn't a long one, thankfully, and after another hour or so, it was time to clock out and go home.  I was grateful for it to be honest, I was shattered! After last night's.. and this morning's antics followed by a shift at work, even though it was only short, I was so tired! A nap was definitely in order when I got back home.  I had successfully managed to avoid any more questions from my friends as I headed up the stairs to granny stuff from my locker and leave.  I remembered I had some texts and excitement started bubbling up inside me. I took my phone out and read the messages, finally;  "Hey, I had a great time last night, I know it's short notice, but are you free for dinner tonight? X'  I started smiling like an i***t as I wrote out my reply;  'Sorry late reply, I've only just finished my shift. If the offer is still there, I'd love to have dinner with you tonight. Will Shane mind? X'  Before I could even grab my stuff, he replied.  'Dont worry about it :) Perfect, let me know where I can pick you up from later, shall we say 7? And why would Shane care?? X'  '7 is perfect. I'll text you my address. And well.. he's your boyfriend so… x'  He didn't reply as quickly this time and for a second I started to over think, thinking I had said some thing wrong. Shaking the stupid thoughts away, I took my stuff out my locker and headed back down stairs. I was going to say good bye to Kandi and Kimmy but I couldn't find them anywhere. Not wanting to hang around and being roped in to staying longer and help deal with the busy period, I quickly left.  Don't get me wrong, I would normally happily stay longer and earn extra money, but now I had a date with Nathan tonight and really wanted that Nap beforehand. I had too much to do now.. plus… I had to find some thing to wear!  As I waited for my bus to arrive, my phone vibrated again. Pulling it out, I read the text;  'When me and Shane are on holiday, our relationship is more.. open. Don't worry, he doesn't mind. See you tonight, warrior princess ;) x'  See you tonight indeed!..
