Chapter Ten

Chapter Ten  Nathan started a conversation about something completely random to fill the car ride, but even if it was a silent ride, it wouldn’t have been an awkward one. I had so many questions I wanted to ask him, but I also didn’t want it to seem like I was only interested because he and Shane were this... ‘’Famous’’ couple back home where they came from. I couldn’t care less about that.  They were both such sweet guys, and I liked them before I knew any of it but.. Still, I had questions. I wouldn’t bring them up now though, it would just be too inappropriate.  As soon as Nathan walked me to his car, I was in complete awe by what I was seeing. A neon green Lamborghini… very flashy... Definitely not something you would see a ‘’normal’’ person driving. Maybe in LA where he was from, but definitely not here.  I had told him how amazing I thought it was and he took the compliment with his sweet smile.  I had no idea where we were going, just out to dinner. It was fine, I didn’t need to know, I was just enjoying the ride... Literally.  ‘So, How was your day at work?’ He asked me randomly. I shrugged.  ‘Same old, same old, you know. Just a normal work day’. He gave me a big grin. ‘So.. tell me more about you?’ He looked over but only for a brief second.  ‘What do you mean?’ I shrugged, trying to seem nonchalant about it.  ‘Well, I wanna know more about you. I know you are from LA, but... I don’t really know much else’.  ‘I don’t have an excusing life really’. Well, that’s not true. ‘Just same old, same old’. He used my words against me. I wasn’t going to push it and seem over easier, so I just nodded, understanding that he either didn’t want to talk about it or wasn’t ready to open up to me about it yet, and that was fine. I could wait.  We pulled up to a restaurant I had heard about but never been too, simply because it was for ‘’rich people’’. I’d never be able to afford to eat here. I looked over at him when he turned the car off  ‘We’re eating here/’ I asked nervously. He nodded and got out of the car. I took my belt off but before I could open my own door, he was already opening it for me. I thanked him and got out. He parked himself so there was no need for the velvet to do it, and we headed inside.  It was as nice inside as you would imagine, and I followed him over to the reception and then to our table. I just stayed quiet while we took our seats and started looking through the menu, everything was so expensive.  I just prayed he ordered something I liked so that I could avoid the awkwardness and just say ‘’Make that two’’.. And luckily, he did.  While we waited for our food, we had some wine and went back to talking about nothing in particular, but it was still a nice conversation;  ‘So, what did you get up today?’ I asked randomly. He shrugged.  ‘Not much really, Shane had a business meeting, I tagged along, but it's really just stuff he deals with. Goes in one ear and out the other for me’. I smiled. ‘So, in conclusion, just a typical day’.  ‘What does Shane do?’ I wasn’t prying, it was just a genuine question.  ‘He um.. Owns a tattoo parlour’.  ‘Really? That’s cool. I didn’t know tattoo parlour would require international work visits and business meetings’. He raised an eyebrow. ‘Sorry.. I just meant… ‘ I trailed off, not really sure what to say.  ‘It's ok, I just dont wanna talk business tonight, that’s all’. I nodded quickly, understanding.  ‘Consider it dropped’. He grinned and got up slightly, I wondered where he was going, but he leaned across the table and placed a sweet and loving kiss on my lips, but only for a few seconds before he sat back down.  I felt my face heat up and the blush crept across my cheeks and had to look away again, feeling all shy.  ‘You’re so cute’. I bit my lip, nervously, still unable to make eye contact with him. ‘Is your plate really that interesting?’ He asked with a small laugh, making a joke. I looked up and saw his smile was still spread wide across his face.  ‘Maybe’. I flirted, lamely, back. He just mmmm’ed and leaned back in his seat, as if taking a better look at me but didn’t say anything, and it sort of turned into a staring contest until our food arrived...
