(Angry Sam) Lizzy “Where is my f*****g money?” He yelled in my face. His breath reeked of cigarettes and cheap alcohol and I wanted nothing more than to vanish into thin air so he wouldn't get mad at me for not paying him the promised money I was supposed to to pay him. “You said you'd get that money today, girl. You said it yesterday! And then the day before that and now you tell me you still don't have a single cent on you. Where is it?” His hands pressed harder against my neck until I was sure there would be bruises. Tears formed in my eyes as I looked around desperately to find an exit or any source of comfort but I found myself completely trapped. I could barely breathe anymore from his hold on me and it was making everything worse. “Please, Sam. I'll… please…pl…gi…give me today. I'll pay you” I choked out, feeling tears stream down my face. He didn't say anything as he released my neck. “I want my money tomorrow. No excuses” he said, walking off towards some of the other girls who seemed unbothered by the situation between us. The person next to me turned to her friend to whisper something to them and then they both glared at me with pitying expressions. I hated it when people stared at me like this. “Are you alright?” Yolanda, my only friend ran to me while the girls had returned to their businesses like nothing happened. I couldn’t blame them, it was a normal scenario here. “I need to be alone” I whispered brokenly, wiping away the tears that were starting to make it difficult to speak. “Please…” she nodded and left after giving me one last look. I waited until she was gone before heading upstairs to where my room- our room was. I needed to pay Sam but how was I going to do that? I needed to hit a big client, not just anyone, one that was generous enough to give me enough money. “Open up Lizzy” Someone knocked from outside the door. It wasn't Yolanda so I assumed it had to be one of the girls trying to take advantage of the situation. My heart rate increased slightly in fear and I took a deep shaky breath. “I know you're inside the room”. They had no right to be here. “No, go away” “Well Maggie says the party starts in the next one hour and everyone has to be ready” I was about to scream in anger but stopped myself. If I screamed in anger, I was afraid Sam would come barging through the door and try to beat the crap out of me. Instead I just muttered “f**k this” before hiding under the covers. I didn't stay there for up to five minutes though, I got up and dragged my aching body to the old vanity mirror that stood in the corner of the room. My own reflection scared me even more than it used to and I tried to avoid looking into my own eyes, as if by staring directly at my reflection long enough, I'd be able to change the fact that this was all happening to me. I grabbed the concealer and foundation and began my business. I was a call girl, I had been that since I turned seventeen and ran away- nobody knew that. I wasn’t sure how to respond yet so I struggled with the little black dress that showed more than enough. “What are you still doing? Maggie will soon be here, you know the rules” Yolanda was knocking furiously on the door, sounding irritated. I sighed deeply as I finished putting it on. “I am done. Leave” I told her calmly after I had let her in and waited as she stormed past me, slamming the door behind her. I leaned against the door and slowly slid down it until I rested fully on the floor, hugging my knees in pain, only for five minutes because I picked myself up and headed downstairs where the girls were already waiting. I could feel them stare at me as if judging me with those judgemental looks as I went to sit next to Yolanda on the couch. We sat in silence. I couldn’t even bring myself to ask her what time Maggie was arriving. “Ladies!” Maggie, a blonde woman in her early fifties arrived looking nothing like her age as usual. We all stood on our feet. She scanned us one by one, taking note of our clothing as we did. She smiled at us- more like herself. It was a smile of satisfaction. Suddenly she stopped in front of me and looked me straight in the eye, examining every part of my face. Her gaze traveled over my shoulders and then back to my face again. Her expression changed and was replaced with one of disgust and fury. She shook her head angrily “Sammy said you are giving him issues. Is that what we agreed?” I shook my head and looked down. But she lifted up my cheek and forced me to look into her deep brown eyes. “Look up, girl” she spat angrily at me. I complied unwillingly. She frowned deeply at her answer which I interpreted as a positive response. “Good” she muttered. “Now I don't care what you have going on but you will pay him up, do you understand me?” I nodded. “Answer me with words!” She snapped, raising a warning finger in my face, making me cringe away from her touch. “Yes” I answered quietly. It was better to get what she wanted than to risk another beating. Maggie nodded approvingly. “Now let's start planning for tonight. You will listen to me and…” The rest of her words blurred out of my consciousness as I focused on listening instead. She talked endlessly about parties and who would attend and everything else I didn't really care about anymore. I didn't even pay attention to the details that she rattled off while leading us outside. There was a black limo outside waiting for us, something about it seemed off. Suddenly I didn't want to go anymore and when I turned to walk away, someone grabbed me, throwing me into the car.
