THE day dragged by. Avery spent her time trying to ignore whichever of her friends was in her class and kept shooting her urgent looks. They all wanted to talk about Jamie, as evidenced by their continuous texts. Hopefully, after today, they wouldn’t have to deal with that. She was nervous, though. There was a reason they hadn’t told anyone till then, and that was the fear. If the twins found out—she’d probably only be starved, but Jamie would be hit again.
