AVERY held her hands up, hoping to explain herself calmly and then make her escape as soon as possible. “It was an accident.”
“You can’t honestly believe that, can you?” Alex asked, his eyebrows raised. “We all know what the Clarks are like.”
Avery pursed her lips. “Jamie wouldn’t do something like that on purpose. I know him.”
“You’ve known him for less than a year,” Tanner pointed out.
Avery couldn’t help it. She shot a dirty look at all of them. “I’ve known all of you less than a year. So by that logic, any of you could’ve done something like that.”
“Okay, good point,” Lucas said placatingly. “But you have to admit that it’s highly suspicious. Frankly, it doesn’t look good for James.”
