LUCAS opened the door for Avery. “Here.” Avery glanced up at him. “Thanks.” Lucas nodded and went over to his door, getting in. He glanced at Avery once and started the engine. She shivered as they started, the coldness of the wind on her wet clothes numbing her limbs. Lucas looked over. “Are you okay?” Avery nodded. “Yeah.” He sighed and pulled over. “What are you doing?” Avery asked. He pulled off his jacket and gave it to her. “Uh, no, that’s—” “Take it.” Lucas said, draping it over her shoulders. “Thanks.” Avery said, grateful for the added warmth. She pulled it tightly over her.  They were silent until they reached her house. Lucas got out of the car and opened the back door, lugging out both the backpacks.
