WHEN she woke up the next morning, nothing was wrong. Avery went through the day suspiciously, but her cousins hadn’t done anything. No humiliation, no videos, not anything except their usual glares and taunts. What was going on? Either they had decided to leave it today… Or they had something much bigger planned. She quickly got ready, wearing dark blue jeans and a soft white top and putting her hair in a side braid. She made coffee and breakfast—poached eggs with avocado toast, did the laundry, and grabbed her backpack.  Avery decided, instead of walking, to skateboard to school. It was faster and easier.
