Twenty Phil could make a run for it. Bea didn’t weigh much. Just as Phil picked her up under his arm to run down the hall for the door, the boy appeared at his side and swiped a mop under his feet, tripping him. “You little—” His feet went out from under him and he landed hard on his side. Bea and the gun flew out of his grip. The minute he landed, both deputies picked up their guns and c****d them. One at his head. The other at his chest. The enormous men closed in, covering Bea, their wings visible. Angels?
