I finished the stupid assignment and started the rest of my homework. I still had work to do from last week at 'werewolf school' as Simon would say.
It was about 1 am when I finished all the work I needed to get done. I crawled into my bed. I didn't care that I hadn't changed into my PJs. I was just too tired.
As I was starting to drift off to sleep, a light knock on my door made me groan. "Go away.. I'm trying to sleep.."
"This is urgent. Open the door." The dorm mother called back.
I walked over to the door and ripped it open. "What could possibly be so urgent at one in the morning?!" I growled at her.
"I'm sorry to inform you of this at such a late hour, but your father has been killed." She gave me a look of pity.
Killed? Did she just say killed?! He was the most careful man in the world! How could he possibly have been killed!? I stared at her in shock. I felt my body tremble. "No... That's not possible... This has to be some sick joke!" I yelled.
Vampires naturally being night creatures, started poking their heads out of their rooms. "Ms. Valentine, I know this is hard to hear, but please keep your voice down. This is still the dormitory after all."
I was gasping for breath. This was not happening. This had to be some sick joke... Or... Or even a nightmare! I felt like I was about to throw up.
Next thing I knew, I was shifting to my wolf form and taking off. I needed to know. I ran all the way to my house where I knew he would be right now, but when I got there, my heart plummeted into my tail.
There were police everywhere. Paramedics were wheeling out a gurnee with a white sheet covering an unmoving body. I took a step closer, but was pulled back into the shadows. "Not in that form, Angelina."
"Yes, Angel. Shift."
I turned and looked at Rowan and Simon. They were both here and holding me back. "I know it's going to be hard, but force yourself to shift. Simon and I can burden the pain."
With that, I shifted back to my human form. Rowan handed me his sweater to wear. I could tell Simon wasn't used to to taking the pain of a shift. He was panting and looked like he was about to pass out. I was about to reach out to him, but the sound of a door closing made me stop. I turned and looked. The ambulance was about to leave.
I ran out screaming. "Stop!" I grabbed the paramedic's arm. She looked at me. "Tell me... Is that John Valentine? Please... Please I need to know if that's my dad!"
She looked at someone behind me and a sad look came over her face. "I'm afraid so.." was all she said before I was pulled away by a policeman's gentle hands.
It wasn't long before I was taken to the police station for questioning. "Ms. Valentine, I know this is going to be hard, but if you could tell me everything you can to my questions, that would help us a lot." I gave the officer a nod. "Could you tell me where you were at about noon yesterday?"
Being passed midnight, it was now the next day. "I was at school in the next town over." The police being human, we couldn't say territory. Only town.
"Alright, do you have anyone to prove you were in fact, at school?"
"Yes. My teacher, Madame Sintary. My dorm mother and the people in my class."
"Alright. Do you know if your father had any enemies or was in a fight with anyone?"
"No. Dad is a very careful man. I mean, he kept the knives locked in a safe until I was 15.. took me a month of convincing to let me use one to cut an apple. He's kind and loving. He's never angered anyone as far back as I can remember."
"Are you sure?" The officer pressed.
"Yes I'm sure! I know my father and he has never angered anyone! Whoever killed him, needs to pay for what they've done!" My eyes flashed in anger.
"I noticed that your father's eyes are quite unusual. Yours are as well. Could you tell me more about that?"
"It's a genetic mutation. Dad has it, and so do I. Just not as bad because of my mother. What does this have to do with my father's death?"
"His eyes are missing. Whoever killed him, took his eyes." There was only one creature out there that collected eyes as trophies. Hobgoblins. They couldn't hide their forms from humans, so they kept to the shadows and hid in deep caves. They didn't come out often if at all in their lives. The officer looked at me as if he knew that I knew something. He narrowed his eyes at me. "I can see that you know something. Mind sharing it?"
I hesitated for a moment. "I like playing games.. what you said about my dad's eyes being missing, just reminds me of a fictional creature in one of my games. A hobgoblin."
The officer laughed at this. "I get that they are real, but I've never seen one come out of the shadows before. What makes you think that one of them did this time?"
I looked at him in shock. "You--"
"Yes. I'm one of the few humans to know about your kind. Yes, I know you are a vampire werewolf hybrid. Now tell me the truth this time."
I let out a sigh. "I was in vampire territory attending school. I bounce between territories learning everything I need to about both vampires and werewolves. Dad used to give me his blood so that I wouldn't go into a frenzy when drinking it. I can't have human blood for that reason. He was able to erase memories though, so he was safe. Dad's been careful for so many years. Successfully kept me away from both species. I didn't know anything until I shifted a few weeks back. Officer, I feel like it was the hobgoblins who did this. When I saw dad's body, his ring from mom was missing."
"Yes.. It seems like it was the hobgoblins. I just can't jump right into it. I have to find clues. Anyways, I'll let you go, but stay close. I may need to speak with you again."
After that, Rowan came to pick me up. Simon was with him as well. They were getting along very well, especially with having to share me. Simon sat in the back seat, letting me sit beside Rowan in the the front. "Hobgoblins.." I muttered to myself, even though both of them heard me still.
"What about them?" Simon leaned forward.
"Dad's eyes were missing as well as his wedding ring from mom. There's only one creature out there that collects eyes, and that's hobgoblins. The officer believes they have something to do with dad's death too. He just can't jump right into it. He needs evidence first." I slumped in the seat. Rowan and Simon put a hand on me. This gave me a strange jolt inside me.
I didn't react to it and Rowan drove us to his house. Which happened to be the pack house itself. "Simon, the sun will be up soon and I know you don't have your meds with you. You'll stay here until dark, then you'll be safe to go wherever you want."
"Thanks, Rowan. If it's alright with you, I'd like to stay with Angelina." Rowan nodded. They both wanted to be here for me.
I sat in the shower crying my heart out. Dad, the only family I had left, was dead. I heard the door open. "Go away." I called out.
I heard the door close, but whoever it was didn't go away. Instead, they were undressing and starting to get into the shower with me. What!? I looked up to see both Rowan and Simon naked in front of me. I felt my eyes widen. "We don't like feeling your sadness," Rowan knelt down in front of me.
"So we've come in to share your pain." Simon knelt down, finishing Rowan's sentence. Rowan to my left and Simon to my right. This felt right. Very right.
I couldn't help it but get closer to Simon. My fangs ached. Rowan knew I hadn't marked Simon, so he gave Simon a nod. As if telling him what I felt. Simon tilted his head and allowed me to sink my fangs into his neck.
Simon wasn't so afraid to let anyone hear his moans. Once I retracted my fangs I sat between them and gave them a small nod. Simon bit into my neck on the right side and Rowan on the left side.
