I hadn't given back control over our body yet. Angelina wasn't ready to face her people. Rumors had already spread like wild fire and the people were wanting to leave. I called for a meeting with the entirety of the people. Now, in an open field on a makeshift stage, I waited for everyone to gather. Some had brought their older children and some left their children at home. Chairs were set up for everyone, myself being the only one to remain standing.
"Hello everyone. I'd like to introduce myself to you as some of you have never met me." I paused and I could see them looking between each other. "I am Katelyn, Angelina's wolf. The wolves know who I am, but as for you vampires, this is our first meeting." I paused again, allowing them to say hello to me respectfully. "Now, I know there have been rumors spreading throughout this territory. For example, some have said that I am a monster for killing my own child. However, that is not true. That child was not mine even though it did grow in my womb. When I found out I was pregnant, I begged the Moon Goddess to remove the child from my body, she declined for she had a reason that the child was created to begin with." I paused and waited for the gasps and murmurs to die down. "The goblins were a race that did something terrible to the Goddess. A deep betrayal that hurt her more than anyone could understand. So, she requested that I punish the goblin king, and I did. As of two hours ago, the goblin race has become extinct. Just as the Goddess requested of me. As for the child, it too, perished. Its life was given no purpose, nor a mate bond. Yes, I was cruel on how I ended its life, but that was part of the request. The Goddess wanted to break the goblin king, and to do that, I had to be cruel. She told me that there would be fear among my people. So, I will make a vow that can only be broken by the Moon Goddess herself. Please, bring me an infant."
I waited as a woman slowly brought me her newborn child. The woman handed me her baby and went to back away, but I gently held her hand. "Please don't hurt my baby, Luna Katelyn." She said into a link between her and I.
I smiled softly and nuzzled the little baby in my arms. Simon handed the woman a silver dagger. "With this, you will cut my palm. It is silver, so please, wear the glove provided for your safety." I watched as she put the glove on and held the dagger. I opened the infants sleeper and exposed its chest. I held my palm out to the mother and gave her a small nod. She then, sliced my palm open. I hissed as I felt the silver enter my skin and blood. "With this wound upon my hand," I held up my bloody hand. "I vow that I shall never harm my people without just cause. This blood vow can only be broken by the Moon Goddess. This child I hold in my arm, shall be the one to end my life if I ever break this vow." Some blood from my hand went up into the air and disappeared to the Goddess. I then placed my hand on the baby's chest. I watched as the little one shivered feeling the power rush into it. "My people, bare witness the seel upon this child's chest. A mark that will fade when I die. A mark that will pulse if I harm anyone in this territory without just cause."
"Luna, how can we be sure if it works? How can we be sure that it's not going to kill the child?" A young werewolf boy asked me.
"Goddess, grant me this one demonstration." I prayed. As if on cue, a flower said to bloom only on full moons, bloomed at my feet. "Thank you, My Goddess." I turned to the mother and handed her baby back to her. "Please wait here." I turned to the boy. "Please step up the the stage." He came up and stood beside me. I lifted my hand and gently touched his cheek. "The child will fuss if the mark is pulsing."
"No. He's still sleeping peacefully." The mother said. I then raised my hand to strike the boy. The infant began to fuss instantly and a sharp pain went through my chest, making me drop to my knees. "He is fussy, and I can feel the mark pulsing by touching it."
"Thank you Goddess, for allowing this demonstration." I gasped out. I could feel the unease of everyone through the bond. This was the unease of seeing their Luna in pain. The boy was gently rubbing my back as the pain started to fade. When it was gone, I stood up. "I hope this eases your fear. I mean no harm to anyone who the Goddess does not allow. Please, head on home and be with your families."
Later that night, I walked in the forest. The pain still lingered in my chest, but it was ignorable. A feeling of guilt washed over me. Angelina didn't like what I did, but it was the only way that our people would not lose respect or loyalty. "Angelina? Are you awake?" I linked her.
"Yes. I'm awake."
"Why are you feeling guilty?" I asked. Genuinely curious about it.
"Because I have yet to set our father in the sun. My horse still does not have a name. Our people fear us, even with the vow. I still feel unworthy of our mates and I fear that I will never be worthy enough for them ever again."
"We will set him out tomorrow at noon. The horse will be named soon. Our people will learn that we won't harm them. And we are worthy enough for our mates. Even though the Goddess had her reasons to put us through what happened, our mates didn't change. They are there for us and will always be there for us. There's no changing that. They love us and will always love us."
Angelina's POV
The next morning, I opened my eyes to find I was in bed alone. Turning to my side, I look at the alarm clock. It was 10:36am. I guess they allowed me to sleep in today. I'd have to thank them. I never noticed how tired I was the night before. I sighed and got up out of bed and headed to the bathroom.
After having a shower and getting dressed in a pair of loose jeans and a crop top, I headed over to Rowan and Simon's office. I don't bother knocking and just enter. Both of them look up and smile at me. "Morning." I greet.
"Good morning, love. How did you sleep?" Simon asked.
I shrugged. "It was alright. Thank you both for letting me sleep in. I must have been really tired."
Rowan chuckled. "We had no choice but to let you sleep in. When we tried to wake you, you growled. Even the alarms that were set, you didn't budge."
I giggled and flopped down into the comfy chair in front of their desks. "So, what's on the menu for today? Any meetings or anything?"
"No. Just Rowan and I need to sign paperwork."
"Not true, Simon. I just got an email from Dusk Claw pack saying that they want to enter into an alliance with us again."
I furrowed my brow. "What for? Are they under attack again?"
"Yes. They have been having an increase on rogue attacks over the passed week or so. They've lost half of their warriors and almost all of their pups."
"Alright. Schedule a meeting in their territory for tomorrow. Today, we have to finally put my dad to rest."
"Ah yes. I got a call from the morgue. They have no more room and they need him buried today." Simon spoke.
"He's not getting buried. He wanted the sun to burn him so that his ashes can spread all over the world." I felt a pang in my chest of grief. I did my best to keep myself from breaking down ever since that night he was murdered.
"Alright. Let's get to it." I stood up and walked to the door.
"Babe, wait. There's one more thing." Rowan spoke up. I turned and looked at him. "Your filly. She's being weaned from her mother. Since you still haven't named her, no one knows what to do with her."
"I'll give her a name today." I said and headed out to get myself something to snack on.
I reached the kitchen and opened the fridge. 'Hm. One apple left. And not much else too. I'll have to send someone shopping.' I thought to myself. I grabbed the apple and closed the fridge.
"Luna?" A girl at about 6 years old tugged on my jeans. I looked down at her. She's an omega. "Is there more apples?"
I shook my head. "No sweetheart. Here. You can have this one. I'll send someone shopping soon."
I handed her the apple and she smiled. "Luna? You can have some of my blood if you want."
I felt my heart stop for two whole beats. I cleared my throat and knelt down to her. "Sweetheart, as much as I love the offer, I don't feed on anyone but my mates. I'll just go hunting for a rabbit instead." I gently pulled her into a hug and then let her go.
"Thank you, Luna." I turned and saw one of my warriors smiling at the little girl.
"For what?" I asked, genuinely confused.
"I've been teaching her the differences between wolves and vamps. Now she thinks if she wants or needs something, from a vamp, she has to trade her blood. I told her that, that isn't the case. We are a family here."
I couldn't help but giggle. "It's okay. I told her that I don't feed on anyone but my mates. I'll go hunting in a bit for myself. Could you please get chef Morgan to send out a few to get some food?"
"Yes, Luna." He bowed and I turned to head over to the morgue.
I reached the morgue and signed for my father's release. I made sure to have him covered so that to ceremony would still happen.
I reached home at about 11:30. It was almost time. I set up a pire and soon, everyone was gathering for the funeral.
At high noon, I pulled the sheet off his body and instantly, he burst into flames. Soon, he will be ashes and traveling through the world. I allowed myself to grieve during the burning of his body.
A few hours after the funeral, I headed to the stables. My filly was pretty big now. I opened her stall and reached out to her. "Hey. Been a while since I saw you last." I said. I pet her for a few minutes before her new name came to mind. "You know, my dad's name was Johnathan Raymond Valentine. So, I hereby give you a name. Rae. That will be your name." Her soft neigh told me she liked it.
"That's a perfect name for her." I turned to see former Alpha Titus smiling at me. I smiled and left the stall to hug my father in law. "How did you come up with it?"
"Dad's middle name is Raymond. So, Rae is the name I chose. After Dad." I headed back with Titus, talking all the while.
