CHAPTER 7 The surgery went as well as could be expected, and it pleased Alyssa to discover the pain wasn't much worse than the broken leg itself had been. She regarded the cast with a certain numb fascination. Heavily dosed with narcotics, her vision seemed to swim, and her head felt stuffed with cotton. “You'll need to spend about five days in the hospital,” a disembodied voice floated up out of nowhere to tell her. Maybe if I turn my head, I'll be able to see who it is. But she didn't. “We'll be monitoring you for infection and rejection of the hardware, okay?” Voice sounds female.
