NATHAN
DECLAN MEETS HER
We stay outside for a while, looking up at the sky, listening to the beautiful sounds of the night, and enjoying the cool night breeze. Jessica’s heartbeat beat steadily in her chest, matching the rhythm of mine. The sparks dancing over my body as her back lay against my chest brings me both peace and desire for this beauty in my arms.
The swirl of her scent, mingling with the aura of peace, joy, and happiness emanating from her, makes the night feel perfect.
Almost perfect. Until she’s mine.
“She’s ours,” Declan sighs wearily. “I don’t like that we have to wait for the go-ahead to mark her.”
“Me too, buddy. But we have no choice.”
“Sadly, yes.”
We both sighed at the same time, and Jessica turns sharply towards me, her eyes wide with concern.
“Is there something wrong?”
I pat her cheek, smiling down at her worried face. “Nothing, flower. I am at peace.”
Her eyes dart with tiny worry over mine. “Are you sure?”
“Very, my love.”
“Okay,” she murmurs, turning to face me and burying her face into my chest, taking a deep breath. “I love your scent, but I don’t know what it is.”
My heart thuds in my chest. Declan purrs in my head. “Thank you.”
“It smells like home and protection. Love, peace, joy…everything I have ever wanted,” her head moves back to face me. “You give me all these feelings, Alpha Nathan.”
“Nathan? You know, you can choose to give me a sweeter name,” not that I don’t like how my name sounds on her lips. I just want to have something more than my name from her lips. I want a special name. Just like I gave her the name ‘Flower.’
She rolls her eyes around as she thinks of a name. “Nothing is coming up.”
“I am sure once your wolf comes, she will help you choose a pet name for me.”
Laughing, she says, “I can’t wait to meet her.”
Me too, flower. You don’t know how much that will change my life forever. “I can’t wait either.”
“May I meet Declan?” she asks, and my wolf jumps fast to his feet.
“Shift right now and let me meet her,” he demands.
“Are you sure?” I ask her.
“Yes. He’s not going to hurt me, right?” Jessica asks making me frown at her question.
“Why do you think he would do that?” my eyes note the flash of hurt that passes over her eyes and how she bites her lips.
“I don’t know. Maybe because of what I have been through.”
“Declan and I would never hurt you, Jessica,” I assure her.
Declan whines at hearing this. “I will never hurt her. Let me tell her before you shift. Please.”
I feel his sadness and need to affirm to her his love and care. That he would never hurt her. I let him have the reins, moving to the back to watch them.
“Hello, mate,” his gruff voice comes out softly as he touches her through my fingers.
“Declan?” Jessica shrieks in a low voice.
“It’s me, baby,” his voice quivers lightly with the amount of emotions racking through him. Through us. “Don’t ever ask if I will hurt you. I would rather claw out my own heart than lay a finger on you.”
She drops her eyes down, fidgeting with my shirt. “I am sorry. I have been so used to being with bad people.”
“Now you’re among people that love you. Nathan and I love you, as do everyone in the pack,” he plays with a strand of her hair. Then clasp her cheek in my palm.
“Okay,” she says, resting her cheek into my palm.
His eyes roamed around her face, noting the smoothness and features. “You’re beautiful. I love your eyes. They remind me of the blue sky.”
Jessica giggles while I rolled my eyes.
“Really? When did you become so poetic?” I scoff at him.
“You can learn a lesson or two from me on how to appreciate this beautiful mate of ours,” he retorts, still gazing at her, following her movements like it was his first time seeing such a spectacle.
“I am learning nothing from you. Now give me the reins back.”
“Not yet. I want to look at her more. Please.”
I stay back and let him enjoy his time with her. It also gives me the opportunity to look at Jessica through his eyes.
Her stark blue eyes are truly the most captivating part of her face. I really do not have the right word to describe it, but I find my heart missing a beat whenever she looks at me. Her soft lips full of her sweet lavender and strawberry scent. They felt so good against mine. I can spend hours just feasting on them. Chewing, licking and sucking them.
“Me too,” Declan agrees. “We have to find her folks fast if we are to know when she will shift. That fucker, Kizziah, could be lying and planning something evil.”
Jessica lays her head back on my chest, and he holds her tight. Her stomach suddenly grumbles loudly, and all three of us chuckled.
“I guess I am hungry,” she murmurs into his chest.
“That’s because you didn’t finish your dinner,” Declan scolds her with a light kiss on her hair. “We need to feed you.”
“You can do the honors,” I offer, feeling his need to care for his mate.
“Thank you, Nate.”
“Don’t. She’s our mate. It’s our job.”
“Come on, Mate. Time to eat,” he pushes her gently off my chest.
“What about Nathan?” she asks as he pulls her along.
“I am here, flower. Watching everything,” I push through, taking control for some seconds to reassure her and pull back when I sensed she is okay with it.
I am glad she thought of me.
“Thanks for coming with me,” Declan nods at her.
“I trust you as much as I trust Nathan.”
Her reply makes both of us happy and smiling in the link.
