10 EVELYN – APRIL 1938 Evelyn stood on the porch looking toward the road. Henry and her mother were to arrive today. A late spring snow had fallen overnight, but Mr. Martinelli had cleared the drive and front walk that morning, and the early afternoon sun was quickly melting any remnants of white left on tufts of new grass. Still, Evelyn shivered. Over the past few days, Evelyn had thought a lot about all that had changed since she had been left on the doorstep of the orphanage with Viola.
