9 EVELYN – 1938 The day of the visit, Evelyn elected to take the bus to the address where Viola was living. Sarah had offered to have their driver take her, but Evelyn preferred it this way. As the bus rumbled along the street, lurching every now and then when it hit a pothole, she wished it could go faster. She leaned forward in her seat as if that could hurry things along.
