EVELYN – OCTOBER 1940
They were sitting at a table covered with white linen, lit by only a candle. The flame sparkled against the crystal wine glasses set in front of them, and Evelyn wondered if she dared to hope that Russell had brought her to this fancy restaurant to ask her to marry him. She hadn't yet told him about the baby, even though another month had passed and there was no longer any doubt. But she didn't want to trap him. If he proposed first, there would be no trap.
