16 EVELYN – JANUARY 1941 Evelyn wished Russell was here with her. She felt so awkward with the weight of her pregnancy pulling her forward. She shouldn't have worn high heels, but she'd wanted to be dressed up for Viola's wedding, so she’d put on her good black shoes and her best maternity dress under the gray coat that could hardly button over her stomach.
