Chapter 16 Opportunity Knocks

984 Words
The immediate dilemma was resolved when Diane's legs began to ache from standing, yet she still hadn't seen any familiar faces passing by. She realized it was partly her fault for being too aloof, not having many friends at school. She decided to wait a little longer, but if no one showed up, she would have to go back to the supermarket. Henry waited for a while and suddenly felt something was off. Diane didn't seem to be waiting for someone, and the way she stood was peculiar. Upon closer inspection, he noticed she had one foot in a high heel and the other foot stepping on the heel of the shoe, probably because the heel had broken off. This presented a good opportunity for Henry, and his heart raced. He never had a chance to interact with Diane at school, and such an encounter like today's might only happen once. Approaching her now would naturally lead to a conversation. Despite Carrie's warning echoing in his mind, Henry struggled internally but couldn't resist the temptation to approach Diane. Checking the road for any cars, he hurried over to her, trying to control his excitement and stuttered, "Mr. Johnson, hi, I'm Henry. Do you need help?" Diane was momentarily surprised but quickly recognized Henry, as the impression he left in Carrie's office was quite memorable. After a brief hesitation, she coldly replied, "I'm fine, you can go home." Henry was taken aback by Diane's immediate rejection. He didn't know what to say, his face showing extreme embarrassment as his enthusiasm was extinguished by her coldness. Diane didn't have any particular opinion about Henry, but she generally avoided accepting kindness from strangers, especially from the opposite s*x. Moreover, she felt there was an intimate relationship between Henry and Carrie, subconsciously avoiding too much contact with Henry. As Diane dismissed him, Henry felt a sense of disappointment. He realized that this was the normal attitude of a female teacher towards a male student. His easy success with Carrie had given him a false impression that female teachers were easy to approach. In reality, without Carrie's cooperation, Henry would never have had a chance with her. As Henry was about to leave, a car pulled up beside them. A thin man in his late twenties or early thirties, wearing wire-rimmed glasses, stepped out of the car. He smiled at Diane and said, "Mr. Johnson, what are you doing here? Need a ride somewhere? Let me take you." Seeing the man as Gordon, Diane's face showed disgust. Gordon, also an English teacher at the school, remained unmarried. He used to be the vice principal at a town middle school, where he had an affair with a married female teacher. Caught in the act by her husband, he was beaten up and had to leave the position. With the help of his relatives in the education bureau, he was transferred back to the city and assigned as a teacher at the school. However, Gordon hadn't changed his bad habits. He harassed the attractive female teachers at the school daily, boasting about his affairs with over a dozen women from the town middle school. Diane became a target for Gordon's advances when she joined the school. While her husband was around, Gordon was somewhat restrained. But in his absence, Gordon frequently visited Diane's office, leaving her feeling helpless and angry. Eventually, she had to report him to the principal. Under the principal's warning, Gordon had to tone down his behavior, but he still harbored inappropriate intentions towards Diane. Upon seeing Gordon, Diane coldly replied, "No need, I'm waiting for someone." "Who are you waiting for, Mr. Johnson?" Gordon, with a smirk, approached her, his gaze lingering on Diane's ample bosom. "Your husband has only been gone for a few months, and you can't wait to cheat. If you have needs, you can come to me." "Gordon, stop being vulgar," Diane said angrily, glaring at him. "I don't need to report to you whom I'm waiting for. Now, step aside." Seeing Diane visibly upset, Gordon's desire flared up. Although he had seduced many female teachers before, none compared to Diane. Her alluring figure and vibrant presence stirred a burning desire in him. He couldn't help but fantasize about having his way with her. During his time at the town middle school, he would summon female teachers to his office under the guise of being the vice principal, coercing them into compliance. These teachers, fearing his power and potential retaliation, reluctantly indulged him for a few days, hoping for some benefits. However, as a regular teacher at the current school, Gordon couldn't find a way to approach Diane. Despite her husband's absence, Diane wasn't the type to succumb to loneliness. Gordon was at a loss, watching Diane flaunt her sensual curves on campus daily, unable to make a move. He was contemplating becoming the head of the English department to have legitimate authority over Diane, planning to assert his dominance then. Seeing Gordon persistently bothering Diane, Henry felt a surge of anger. He walked over, stood in front of Diane, and bluntly said to Gordon, "Teacher, Mr. Johnson is waiting for me. You better leave." "Which class are you in?" Gordon sneered, looking at Henry in his school uniform. "Why are you still here after school? How could Mr. Johnson be waiting for you? You're obviously lying. Mr. Johnson, where are you going? Let me give you a ride." "Why can't Mr. Johnson wait for me?" Henry quickly responded, "She's my cousin, right, cousin?" Diane hesitated for a moment, caught Henry's eye signal, and nodded subconsciously, saying, "That's right, Henry is my cousin. I'm waiting for him to go home together. Gordon, please leave." "Is that true?" Gordon looked at Henry skeptically, but with Diane confirming their cousin relationship, he had no way to verify. Seeing Diane's firm stance, he reluctantly drove away.
