"Olive?" He asked. My eyes widened how did he know it was me? The girls stared at me to say something, but my words were nowhere to be found.
"Olive, is that you?" He repeated this time smoothly making me forget all of my hatred towards him.
"Uh...umm...yeah, hi?" Don't judge me. I didn't know what to say.
"Hi?" I'm sure his face has a frown. "Are you okay?" He asked worry visible in his voice.
"Yeah! Ha ha!" I let out a dry laugh.
"Are you sure?" He elongated the last word. Dude I'm not sure! I called you! Isn't that enough?
"Yeah yeah" I let out a small chuckle.
"Okay. Cool, so why did you call?" He asked. It was dare, no big deal. I wish I could say that, but I don't wanna have a shaved head so it's a NO!
"Just wanted to say hi." I nod even if I know he wasn't looking.
"You just wanted to say hi?" He sure raised a brow. He sounds confused. I mean why wouldn't he? I called him!!
"Yeah." I sighed.
"In the middle of the night?" He asked. I glanced at the watch hanged on the wall and it reads...2am...What the hell? My eyes widened at the girls, they shrugged while Stella chuckled. I snapped my head and shot her a death glare. She placed a hand on her chest pretending to be hurt. I rolled my eyes.
"Are you there?" He pulled me back.
Barely! But too bad I can't say that.
"Yeah em I didn't mean umm to uh wake you." I stuttered flinching while I speak. He let out a soft chuckle.
"Really?" He tested. I arched a brow while Pat and Loo dropped their jaw in amusement. Stella seemed to enjoy the show though, she smirked! Can you believe that?
"Yes!" I blurt.
"Okay as you wish.." if I was him I would raise my hand in defeat. Loo waves a hand at me. s**t I zoned out again.
"Huh?" I asked if he could repeat what he said.
"You sure you good?" He asked.
"Yes Sage I am perfectly fine thank you for asking!" I snapped.
"Sorry for caring." He whispered, but enough for me to hear. If I didn't hate him it would've been cute, but I do so I rolled my eyes.
"I'm sorry I snapped. Now what were you saying?" I tried not to sound bored. He let out a sigh before answering.
"I said when a woman calls after midnight it's called booty call." The girls muffled a laugh since he doesn't have to know that they're listening and I scoffed.
"You wish." I tested.
"Baby we're almost there." He accepted the challenge. I was about to hang the phone on his ear but I-AM-ON-A-f*****g-DARE!
"Let me make this simple and clear for you. I-will-never-give-you-a-booty-call!" I made my voice harsh on the last sentence.
"We'll see about that. Sleep tight pumpkin." He was about to hang the phone when Pat mouthed me I was left with five more minutes.
"HEY! Wait wait wait!" I almost yelled.
"Jeez Olive I wasn't gonna hang up until you've wished me a goodnight sleep." He teased.
"Uh I was about to uhh...ask you ...a...about something." I stuttered hoping for a yes.
"Olive you can ask me tomorrow. Maybe having lunch together?" Is he asking me out? He did that in class too.
"No, I wanna ask you now." I protest.
"Look Olive I-"
"Please." I cut him off.
"Fine." He sighed. I looked at Pat and asked her how much time I had left. She mouthed 2 minutes. I groan in frustration.
"Olive what is your question?" He asked with a flat tone.
"Uh...my question...yeah ha ha...my question is...umm.." I don't have a question!
"Olive do you even have one?" No Sage I don't!
"Well that's another question, but yes I do have one. Just stop talking and hear me out."
"Go on."
"How old are you?" And gasped at the stupid question I just asked. The girls are already laughing with their hands covering their mouth. If I was them I would've done the same, but I'm in a different situation. I CAN'T LAUGH actually I'm embarrassed.
"Are you sure that's your question?" He asked confused. As I was about to answer his question Pat waved her hand announcing me the dare was over. I felt my lips turning upwards.
"You know what forget it, bye."I chirped and hanged up the phone without another word from both of us.
I laughed feeling happy I saved my hair. The girls gave me an applause and I dramatically bow.
"Huh." I sighed in relief.
"How old are you?" Loo mimicked and we laughed.
"Please." Stella adds copying my recent actions. We laughed at that too.
"Olive do you even have one?" Pat mocked. They laughed.
"Okay okay know can we change the subject and get off of me." I whined. Stella cleared her throat with the need to say something.
"So he literally asked you out, why did you say no?" She asked and the others nod expecting me to say something.
"Well for your information he didn't ask me out. He just wanted to sleep so he wanted a getaway plan." I protest.
"If he wanted a getaway plan he could've told you to ask him in class." Ella pushes.
"That might sound rude so..." I shrugged.
"As you wish." She raised her hands in defeat.
"Bed time!" Loo yells and we all groan standing from our seats walking to bed. Loo and Ella laid back on Loo's bed while pat on the floor and me on my bed. Don't judge me I just hate sharing bed with peoples. And don't worry Pat is perfectly fine and comfortable on the floor. She got pillows, comfort and a mattress for underneath. Also our room has a carpet so she's all good.
We switched the light and drifted.
Sage's pov
I was in my beauty sleep when I heard my phone ringing. I groaned and cursed the caller. My eyes couldn't adjust the light radiating from the screen so I swiped and spat. Who in the world calls after midnight except for emergencies ofcourse.
Hello?" I answered the phone my voice thick alarming the caller that I was sleeping.
No answer. I glanced at the screen making sure the caller was still there.
"Hello?" I repeat expecting an answer this time.
Still nada.
"Whoever this is, I can hear you breathing. Speak!" My voice getting thicker running out of patience.
"Hey" a beautiful voice answered. And it hit me remembering who it belonged to.
"Olive?" I asked but I was sure she was on the other side of the line.
"Olive, is that you?" I repeated smoothly trying not to scare her.
"Uh...umm...yeah, hi?" She stuttered. Did she just say hi? The girl hates me! How in the world did this happen. Something seems wrong.
"Hi?" I frown. "Are you okay?" I asked worry eating me. How did she even get my number?
"Yeah! Ha ha!" She let's out a dry laugh.
"Are you sure?" I elongated the last word with doubtfulness.
"Yeah yeah" She let's out a small chuckle. Which by the way is the most beautiful sound I've heard through the experience of life.
"Okay. Cool, so why did you call?" I asked curiosity controlling my tongue. I hope I didn't sound rude.
"Just wanted to say hi." She simply stated.
"You just wanted to say hi?" I raised a brow with her sudden interest of talking to me.
"Yeah." She sighed.
"In the middle of the night?" I asked. She took so long to answer. "Are you there?" I asked if she was still on the line. It's still new to me you know? Us talking in the middle of the night.
"Yeah em I didn't mean umm to uh wake you." I stuttered. I let out a chuckle at her shocked state.
"Really?" I tested. Who wouldn't know a person would wake up if you called him in the middle of the night? It doesn't make sense.
"Yes!" She blurt.
"Okay as you wish. Do you know when women call men late it's called booty call?" I asked with a mocking tone.
"Huh?" She asked if I could repeat what I said.
"You sure you good?" I asked again tempted by her odd behaviour.
"Yes Sage I am perfectly fine thank you for asking!" She snapped. Sorry.
"Sorry for caring." I whispered.
"I'm sorry I snapped. Now what were you saying?" It seems like she was having a fight with herself. I let out a sigh before answering.
"I said when a woman calls after midnight it's called booty call." Smirk making a way to my lips. Hope she could see it.
"You wish." She pushed.
"Baby we're almost there." I accepted the challenge. I can imagine her tense at my words.
"Let me make this simple and clear for you. I-will-never-give-you-a-booty-call!" Her voice was harsh on the last sentence.
"We'll see about that. Sleep tight pumpkin." I was about to hang the phone before I heard her voice stopping me from doing it.
"HEY! Wait wait wait!" She almost yelled. What's gotten into her?
"Jeez Olive I wasn't gonna hang up until you've wished me a goodnight." I teased. She groan.
"Uh I was about to uhh...ask you ...a...about something." She stuttered hoping for a yes.
"Olive you can ask me tomorrow. Maybe having lunch together?" Hoping to get myself a date.
"No, I wanna ask you now." She protested.
"Look Olive I-" I tried to persuade her but she beat me to it.
"Please." She pleaded. How cute.
"Fine." I sighed allowing her to continue. But once again she was quite. "Olive what is your question?" I asked with a flat tone I didn't want to be harsh but I really am sleepy. It's freaking 2 am!
"Uh...my question...yeah ha ha...my question is...umm.." She stuttered. Again.
"Olive do you even have one?"
"Well that's another question, but yes I do have one. Just stop talking and hear me out."
"Go on." I sighed laying back on my pillow.
"How old are you?" She quickly gasped at her question. I was about to burst into laughter but I controlled myself from doing it.
"Are you sure that's your question?" I asked confusion getting the best of me.
"You know what forget it, bye." She chirped and hanged up the phone.
"Hello?" I asked. No answer.
I slide my phone on the table beside me and laid back once again remembering her beauty. I remembered the first time I saw her....
"Alright I'll make sure to tell him. Okay. Have a nice day sir." Stacey hanged up the phone. I walked to her desk and she looked at me with a sorry look. "Here's your file. This time it's overseas. Goodluck!" She smile but a sad one. I groan.
"Overseas?" I asked not believing what she said.
"Yes handsome. And he's waiting for you." She pointed to the door where the boss is behind.
"Is he mad?" I asked frowning.
"Actually it's the opposite. Go and see it for yourself." I hesitated. "Carry on!" She waved. I rolled my eyes and went.
Knock knock.
I slowly opened the door and stepped forward. He was on the phone.
"Yeah yeah sure. I'll reach you. Okay." He hanged the phone placing his arm on the desk. "Have a sit kid." He gestured to the chair.
"Yes sir." I obeyed and took a sit.
"So you're going abroad?" He asked even if he was in charge of the case.
"Yes." I nod.
"Well it's a great opportunity." He stated.
"You're sending me abroad as a punishment and you want me to consider it as a great opportunity?" I snapped.
"You can call it what ever you want but the case in your hand is pretty handy. Don't ruin it like the last one." He warned.
"Last time was an accident. And yes sir I won't ruin this."
"You'll have an assistant. A girl. Older than you, she will lead you through it." He relaxed back on his chair.
"I don't need an assistant." I protest.
"Yes you do. You're flight will be in a hour. Our man will escort you to the airport. He will give you all the necessary from passport to your new ID. The file on your hand will clarify the questions you have." He states calmly.
"Where are you sending me?"
"I thought you know how to read? Do yourself a favour and read the file. You're dismissed." By that I was out of the room. My mind was racing until I heard a voice.
"Goodluck handsome!" Stacey chirps.
"I need that. See ya!" I wave and went out of the building.
A man in a black suit was standing infront of a black Mercedes.
"Sir, I'm Thomas Black I'll be escorting you to the airport." The man speaks.
"Umm...I think I might need to go home and pack my things don't worry I'll call an uber." I smile at the man and started walking away.
"Excuse me sir, I'm afraid you can't do that." He stops me from taking more steps. I turn and face him for more explanation. "Sir, we've packed all the things you need. You don't need to go home. We need to be on the road or else you might miss the plane." He suggests.
"Wait, what? Did you just say you've packed all the stuffs I need from my apartment?" Confusion getting the best of me.
"Yes sir." He simply answer.
"Okay umm...we shall go...uh Thomas." I facked an accent. Thomas nods opening the door for me and I entered. After he made sure I was fully in, he closed the door and went to the driver's seat.
"Well I'm fine thank you." A lady voice startled me. I snapped my head to the direction. A pink haired lady was sitting next to me. "Sorry did I startle you?" Sounds more of a question.
"Um...no ha ha no!" I let out a dry laugh and she arched a brow. "Yeah you did." I admit. She chuckled and extended a hand. And I accepted.
"I'm Samantha, call me Sam." She smiles.
We talked on way to airport. After we arrived Thomas led us through the airport. He gave us our luggage. I opened the one holding my clothes and guess what? They weren't my clothes.
"Uh Thomas I think we've exchanged a bag with someone at the checking area." I glanced at Thomas who has no expression on his face. "Thomas did you-?"
"No sir we haven't exchanged." He cut me off.
"But this are not my things." Pointing to the clothes.
"They are now yours, sir. Boss ordered these and told us it was for your new job." He answered.
"I don't need new garments. I have my own." I groan. " we're these the things you were implying while I asked you about my stuff?" I asked.
"Yes sir." He replied. I groan again. "Sorry sir. But we have your laptop. We thought you might need it." He adds.
"Good. Where is it?" Zipping the luggage.
"In the red suit case, sir." He answered. And I quickly opened to check. Found it! I let out a sigh.
"Well thank you for your service, Thomas. Have a nice year." I waved.
"Thank you sir. Goodluck."
"Thank you Thomas." I turned my heels walking to the plane. Sam had already left while I was arguing with Thomas. Once I was inside the hostess greeted me with a warm but forced smile and told me my seat number. I thanked her and walked further. I stopped when I saw Sam with a headphone. I took a sit beside her and opened my laptop. I haven't checked my email recently so that was the first thing I did. Checking.
Time passes and things do change with time. I still haven't looked my project. So I decided checking. After turning few pages my eyes met a beautiful creature. A human, specifically.
Height - 1.64m
Nationality - American
Skin colour - light chocolate
Eye colour - pure black
Hair type - black, medium length, medium thickness
Weight - 49 kg
Perfect! That was all I could say. I stared at the different pictures of her for minutes. So beautiful. I quickly searched for her name. OLIVE WEINMART. Olive hmm what a beautiful name for a beautiful girl. If nature is beautiful then she is the split image of it. She has a true natural beauty. I wasn't excited of this trip at first but now I can't wait to meet her.
Well the first time I saw her was on that piece of paper. The first time I saw her in flesh was while I was saying my farewells to my parents inside the school compound. She was wearing a simple jeans and a simple top. I wonder what she'll look in a designer dress? A queen? Anyhow I'm dying to get to know her more. I slowly started to drift off. But before I was completely gone I whispered her name.
"Olive." It sounds........peaceful. I smiled and the next thing I know I knocked out.
Olive's pov
Sundayyyyy! It was supposed to be a laundry day, but thanks to Loo, Stella will be doing the job for today. If life had gone as planned I would've been in bed dreaming. Well lucky life he's the one in charge, it never goes as planned. I am now with some students preparing the necessary equipments for tomorrow. Don't ask me what tomorrow is, it's freaking election! We're decorating, organizing, preparing cards bla bla... while Loo is having a great time in bed. So lucky.
We were divided into different groups. I was going here and there controlling, checking and correcting stuffs, discussing things that needed change. Generally speaking I was in charge so I am expected to show perfection. Not completely though. No one's perfect! I chose the meeting hall since it was just us, 12 graders. Balloons, banners, simple decors, cards, empty boxes....everything is going-.
"Nice!" A man's voice appreciated. I couldn't recognize the voice so I choose to look. Dark skin, black hair, couldn't see his eyes colour since his taller and will be called rude for staring, appropriate height 1.82, fit, plain black shirt with skinny navy blue jeans, black jordans. Perfect.
"Uh thanks." I smiled.
"Wanna know my eye colour?" He smirks. Oops busted!
"What?" I ask trying to hide my embarrassment.
"Oh don't be embarrassed it's completely natural to check out a man." He assures me. I laughed.
"No one's checking you out." I scoff.
"So you're saying that you haven't seen this?" He smirked showing me his bi and triceps with his hands in his pockets. And darn he looked fine.
"Okay charmer I still have some jobs left." I was about to turn until he asked a question which made me wait.
"Why didn't you accept the offer to be the president? You wouldn't have gone through this." He shrugged.
"Well it wouldn't have been fair." I answered even if I knew it wasn't my only reason. He scoffed and I raised a brow.
"That's the politically correct version. What's the real?" Curiosity wasn't in his eyes. It was certainty. He was certain of something like he knows me or something.
"It's the real. I don't see the point of being a president if the people doesn't love and need you." I defend.
"Attention." He speak. I froze. I tried to blink my nervousness away.
"Huh?" I asked.
"That's what you're afraid of." He states and I scoff.
"And why would I be?" I tried to look away but he stepped closer.
"That's what I want to know." He states.
"There's nothing to know." I snapped. He backed out.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to bring a touchy subject." I apologised. Touchy?
"Who are you?" I crossed my arms.
"Oh I forgot about that, Naod." He stretches his hand for me to shake.
"Well you were busy sticking your nose in other peoples business." I murmured. And shook his hand with a fake smile.
"You don't have to fake a smile." He softly speak.
"Sorry" I mumbled.
"Just know that you're being watched." He placed his hands back in his pocket.
"What does that suppose to mean?" I frown.
"It means everybody's attention is on the queen." What? Weird.
"Who's the queen?" I scoffed.
"Hey Olive we need pair of hands." A girl called from the back.
"You need to go. We'll talk some other time." He smiles walking backwards. I nod and turn. After seconds he called.
"Hey umm it's brown."
"What?" I frown.
"The eye colour," he winks "it's brown." he walks away. I chuckle. Hope we'll meet soon. I went back to my job and after several tiring hours we gathered and cleaned the remains. Everyone left and I was the one behind, after one last glance I locked the door and went back to my dorm.
The girls brought food, we ate! Obviously. They started watching movies while I folded my clothes and placed them in my cupboard. I was tired so I went to bed.
NEXT MORNING
Monday
I groan when my alarm alarmed me that my time was up. I did my morning rituals including waking Loo's sleepy a*s. Oh I forgot! Today is election. Speaking of election we wanted to spend our Monday on election which our director disapproved. As always we will continue our classes and after lunch the election will be held. Which means we will only be missing 2 classes. Even if we're smart we still love ditching classes. I went to the director's office before class and had a little chit chat about the Grand election, note the sarcasm.
The day went quiet well until we opened the meeting hall for election and students started to elect. After spending 2 or more hours on counting the votes while I was with the director arranging stuffs, one of the girls named Layla called me for emergency.
"Hey Olive?" She called.
"Yeah?"
"Uhm we have a problem." She frown.
"A problem?" I asked. She nods.
"The cards uhmm they're all the same." She stutters.
"What's that suppose to mean?" I frown.
"Uhmm I think you should see it for yourself." She leads the way and I follow. When we reach the separate class where all the cards were collected she opened the door and I went in. They all looked at me like I was some alien. I slowly reach the table where the cards were scattered. I pick one and read. I froze!
