4 Caverson’s property was a night’s ride east of the Murray ranch. Clint, Jake and Lionel Murray rode in silence staying in the ravines when possible for better cover. The moon was bright and full and looked near enough to touch. Only an occasional coyote or an owl changed the scenery. They rested as they rode and saved their energy for the morning’s confrontation, for which they were all heavily armed. The plan was to talk first, make their demands, and if Caversons back talked, on Clint’s signal, they would shoot to kill. Murray’s would be outnumbered but the Caversons wouldn’t suspect violence from just three of them. Hopefully they would catch them at breakfast, sleepy eyed, or better yet with their pants down.
