Don't be a mean boss.
It was a beautiful day, Jenny Josh was super excited, and her dreams were finally becoming a reality. It was the start of a business career, Jenny had always wanted to be at the top in business management and today was a big first step to achieving that. Jenny got a job to be the personal assistant of the new CEO of the DANS Group of Company, a multinational company. It wasn't the position she wanted but it was good enough for a start and working with the CEO would allow her room to learn. It was a win-win for Jenny. For her outfit, Jenny had chosen the best of her corporate outfit; cream matching pants and jacket and a light brown satin inner. She rolled up her hair and held it up with a Chinese hairpin, a birthday gift from her best friend Peter. She couldn't wait to get her day started and tell him all about it, Peter had always been a good friend from College and was there for her in her high and low moments. Although he had always wanted them to be more than friends, she wasn't ready for it. As Jenny walked into the DAN building and was making her way to the elevator her phone began to ring. It was Peter. “Hey Pete,” she answered. “Hey, how are you?” Peter asked from the other end. “I'm good and you” “Fine, just called to wish you a happy first day” Jenny could hear the excitement in his voice, Peter had always wanted her happy and what makes her happy makes him happy too. “How nice of you, thank you” “Are you there already?” he asked “Yes, I'm in the building heading for the executive floor” “That's good, you can't be late on your first day” “Yeah” “Okay, I will let you go now, break a leg” “I sure will,” Jenny said and smiled. “Humm, Jenny, can I pick you up at the close of work, and let's do dinner, you know you promised we could take things forward when you get a job” Peter tried to explain without sounding desperate. But he was desperate, Jenny had been making him wait, he loved her and wanted to be more than friends with her. “Peter, you should take things slow, I'm not running away” Jenny teased him. She did promise they could be lovers when she gets a job and starts her career. “I was just saying_ but please let's do dinner, to celebrate a successful first day” “Okay, fine dinner to celebrate” she agreed. She finds it hard to say no at this point. “It's a date I will pick you up,” he said happily and hung up. Peter was a dear friend, Jenny wanted to leave it at that, she had been in love before, and knew the feeling before she got her heart broken. What she felt for Peter wasn't love but genuine friendship. She had dodged every form of a love affair with him right from college because she feared if she started up something with him, she would break his heart and lose him as a friend. She values their friendship. Right now, she can't run anymore; she would have to give their love relationship a chance and see how it goes. Peter is a kind and good man. Jenny believes he would make a good lover, she thought as she rode up the elevator filled with people mostly staff. She got off at the executive floor and walked through the neatly polished hallway, it was so quiet she heard only the sound of her shoes. Jenny's heart began to beat fast, it was happening, she was going to be walking with one of the most influential men in the country. She wondered what he looked like. He was the new CEO, the company just had a takeover and CEO change. Jenny prays that her new boss likes and treats her with kindness. Jenny bent at the corner and approached the sophisticated all-white reception, from the painted wall to the furniture all glowing in white. “Hi,” Jenny greeted the beautiful blonde receptionist in a black suit, hair down, and mind makeup. When Jenny saw the appearance of the receptionist she remembered the “mind makeup requirement policy” boldly written in the employee contract she had signed, she had no problem with the clause, she wasn't a fan of makeup. “Hey, how can we help you?” the lady asked with a smile. “I'm Jenny_ Jenny Josh, the new PA to the CEO” Jenny answered showing her, are shiny new ID “Oh, Jenny Josh, we are expecting you,” she said, maintaining a smile on her face. Jenny nodded, relaxed, and waited for the lady's direction. “Mr. James is in a meeting right now_ you would have to wait a few minutes, so I can introduce you to him,” she said. “Okay” “You can sit over there and wait,” the lady offered. Jenny took the offered seats. She was the only one in the waiting area, she was grateful for it, as no one would see and notice how nervous she was. She was beginning to sweat a beat, the thought of what her boss would look like came back again. What if he is a mean boss? Can she handle a mean boss? She was thinking too much, and might be worried over nothing, her boss might just be an old man who wouldn't care about her and wanted her to just do her job. Jenny changed her thoughts as she observed she was going to get a headache if she continued to think of the negative. Be positive! Be strong! Be confident! Be kind! I give and attract these energies. She recited in her head the motivational quote her father taught her to always say in difficult times as a child. She had not used them for a long time, she had never been this nervous in a long time. And like magic it worked, she was breathing fine and relaxed. Her father would be proud, she couldn't wait to tell him all about her first day too, he would be expecting her call at the end of the day. The receptionist signaled Jenny over when she finished talking on the office phone. Jenny had been waiting for over ten minutes and was happy to answer her. “You may go in, Mr. James will see you now” she informed Jenny pointing her in her direction. “Thank you,” Jenny walked up to the pointed door. Hand on the doorknob. “Don't be a mean boss. Don't be a mean boss. Don't be a mean boss.” Jenny whispered in prayers as she turned the knob and stepped in. It was a large office, with a big window that gave a clear view of the city. The CEO was wearing a shy blue shirt and brown well-pressed pants, his matching jacket hanging on a fancy hanger by the desk, while he talked on the phone facing the window, watching the city. “Mom, I said I would make time, for now, I am busy” Jenny heard him say. “Mom_ Mom, please. fine but can we talk about this some other time, I have so many things I need to handle here_ please. I love you. Bye,” he hung up. Jenny approached the desk still saying her little prayers in her head this time with her fingers crossed. She stopped at the desk and waited for her boss to turn around. When he did, he was young, very young, he looked early thirties, tall, Nicely built, handsome face, blue eyes that matched his shirt, firm jaws, he was a fine man, and he was her ex. Raymond James, was the only man Jenny had ever loved, the same one who broke her heart some years ago. Jenny froze.
