But as the figure reached for her, Maria saw a flash of light and the figure crumpled to the ground. She looked up to see a group of armed soldiers standing before her, their weapons still smoking. "Dr. Hernandez, are you alright?" one of the soldiers asked. Maria let out a sigh of relief and nodded. "Yes, I am now. Thank you for rescuing me." As she was escorted back to safety, Maria couldn't help but wonder what other secrets this planet held, and what other dangers lurked in the vast expanse of space. But for now, she was just grateful to be alive. As she debriefed the military officials on what had happened, Maria couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt wash over her.
