As I looked over at her, it struck me how beautiful she was. Her hair was blowing carelessly in the wind, a halo on her head. I had the oddest impulse to reach out and touch. See if it was as soft as it looked. Her lips were curled into a soft smile that radiated warmth. I wondered who or what she was thinking of and my heart skipped a beat imagining her smiling for me.

It's crazy how i never noticed how blue her eyes are. Or how her laughter sounds like summertime. It's strange how I never really looked at her. And suddenly i couldn't stop staring.

01: The Five Stages of Grief
//01: The Five Stages of Grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Sarcasm, Acceptance// 01 • The Five Stages Of Grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Sarcasm, Acceptance. “Nope.” “Yes.” “Nuh uh” “Moon, yes.” “Sunshine, no.” “Moonlight, you cannot deny your way out of this” my best friend glared at me. I refused to believe it. “Maybe not, but I can most definitely try” I replied stubbornly. “Zayleigh!” She sighed exasperatedly “Saahirah” I answered back. She stared at me. “I didn’t do it, okay! It didn’t happen! Stop staring at me like that!” I yelled angrily. She kept staring. My eyes flickered to the shattered pieces on the carpet. I opened my mouth to argue again but the front door opened. Sunshine’s eyes widened. “Girls! I’m back” my Mom’s voice rang out from the hallway. Sunshine and I stared at each other, wide eyed. My Mother’s footsteps halted at the door. “H-hi Mom” I smiled nervously. She did not find it amusing. “Zayleigh Marianna Adler. Tell me that is not my expensive antique vase on the floor?” She said calmly. “No! Of course not!” It’s uhm… it’s the vase from my bedroom” I laughed “that vase is red” Mom deadpanned. “The one from the kitchen?” I squeaked “that’s green” her hazel eyes stared me down “the hallway?” Sunshine snorted behind me. “You don’t have a vase in the hallway” she said. I glared at her “shut up. Who’s side are you on?” She simply shrugged. “You broke my antique vase” Mom said again “no, mother dearest, I broke Sunshine’s vase” the sarcasm rolled off my tongue before I could stop it. I slapped my hand over my mouth in surprise “I’m about to break your legs!” Mom threatened. “I’m so sorry Mom. I promise I’ll clean it up” I said “and?” Her eye brow raised “and I’ll repay you for it” I grumbled. She smiled, triumphant. “Good. I’m off to make dinner. Saahirah, don’t help her clean it up” Mom turned and left. Sunshine grinned evilly, sitting down. I glared at her “you, Saahirah Wilson, are the worst best friend ever” she cackled “you love me” yeah, I did love her. Maybe a little too much. 350 words.
