Chapter 8

“They call this place Kage,” Walker said looking up from the map. I looked up as we drew closer. The city was on top of a damn hill. I did not understand how this hill was even here. We were inside of those giant gates. The only thing that made sense was that perhaps it was like that thing we had gone through back on Rho, the one that somehow transported us to an entire city that was not able to be seen unless you went through… “This reminds me of the city on Rho,” Walker said breaking my reverie. “I was thinking the same thing,” I said. “That is the only thing that is able to explain why this thing is on the hill up there. Is that glyph up there?” “Yes,” Walker said looking down at the map. “Well let see what the heck,” I said. I was starting to think that I had seen some of the strangest things ever. From that floating tower back on Rho, to that strange gate thing, to the damn pillar that sent us here, all those things were strange. This city, though, this city that was on top of this hill took the cake. Firstly, it was at the very top of this hill. I had heard that the city that was on top of Mount Jengish, was something to be seen. This on the other hand, I had a feeling was something completely different. “Woah,” Walker said as we walked into the large walls of the city. Woah was right. The city was hustling and bustling. It reminded me of the cities back on Rho. There were merchants on the streets selling all sorts of things. I heard the sizzles of food being made over fires, saw people walk by pointing at this or that. There were mostly females, but it was not like what that creature had told us. There were males here, a bunch of males. So why the hell did that thing lie to us like that? “Can you imagine if they froze this place?” Walker said. “Why haven’t they?” I asked. As I stood there, I started to wonder that, why was this city not frozen. Did the Storm Bringer purposely freeze the male city for some reason or another? Maybe there was something here that they were looking for. That was when I remembered about that glyph on the map. “How far is that glyph pup?” I asked. Walker stopped gawking and pulled out the map. “That way,” he pointed to the east. I nodded and started walking down the street. It was strange being in this city disguised as something I was not. I remember my father telling me this story about this Beghrest who had disguised itself as a sheep. As ridiculous as it had sounded to me back when I was a young pup, I started to wonder if it really had happened. My father had said that the Beghrest had been sent to find a herd of sheep, the purpose of that was that certain chiefs had done this to challenge his claim to be the Supreme Chief of the Jengish Region. Ovsta was what they ended up calling him after he had pulled this feat off. Ovsta had pretended to be a sheep to earn the trust of the sheep, then the sheep followed him back to Jengish to the shock of the other Chiefs. I could not help but to feel like this. Like a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Perhaps this was the next challenge I was facing, perhaps there is something more to what is going on than I can even fathom at this moment. “Greetings,” said a metallic voice. I looked around and saw this hovering thing. I had no idea what it was. It was a tad smaller than Walker was, it had a mostly white body, with these glowing blue eyes on its head. It looked metallic, and yet it looked as nimble as a rubber tree. “What in the world is this thing?” I asked. I had never seen anything like it. There was no pulse to it, no breathing, no distinguishable sounds of something alive and yet here it was floating in front of me looking at me. “Is this you’re first time here?” the thing said. “Oh, wow I didn’t know they had a tourist bot here,” Walker said. “A what bot?” I said. “A tourist bot,” the thing said. “My serial number is 0432EVE, you may call me Eve.” “Uh huh…” I said then turning towards Walker I asked, “What the hell is this thing?” “Don’t tell me you have never seen a Robot?” Walker said, and I looked at him blankly. “Seriously you have never seen a robot?” “No,” I said. “I don’t even know what the hell a Ribbit is,” “It’s robot,” the thing said. “Whatever,” I said. “Its an artificial lifeform.” Walker said. “An artificial lifeform?” I said shocked. “There’s such a thing?” “Oh yes,” the thing said. “Especially here, our population of artificial life forms numbers in the thousands.” “Good lord, you mean there are more of you, things?” I asked “Well not like me,” the thing said. “But yes, there are others here. You are obviously new here, is there anything that I can help you find?” “Maybe we can ask it about that glyph,” I suggested to Walker. “I don’t know if it will know what it is,” Walker said skeptical. “I am programmed to recognize all sorts of glyphs and symbols of this city,” the thing said. Walker looked at me and then looked back at the thing and pulled out the map. Walker moved the map around and showed the glyph to the thing. “Oh, that is the SIX Service Inc. symbol.” “See pup,” I said. “But what is that?” Walker said. “Aren’t you a bit young to be looking for that?” the thing said then it turned toward me. “You I can understand, but don’t you think you shouldn’t take him there?” “I don’t even know what that is,” I said. “You don’t?” The thing said, and I shook my head. “SIX service Inc. owned and operated by Samielle Isolde Xemenez, it’s a gentleman’s club.” The thing said. “What the hell do you mean Gentleman’s club?” I asked, and I looked over at Walker who looked confused also. “Its where you can go to and get certain services from females.” The thing said. “Including but not limited to: Escort services, night time services, maid services, other lewder services I am programmed to refrain from around children.” “Lewder services?” I said c*****g my eyebrow. “I much rather not say,” the thing said. “Fine, where is this place.” I asked. “You can find it in the corner of Ijf street and Elova Avenue.” The thing said. “It is approximately, 2.3 miles from this current location due east.” “Thanks,” I said. “You aren’t taking your boy, there are you?” the thing said. “I need to tell you such action is illegal.” “You misunderstand,” I said. “Oh?” the thing said. “Yeah, a friend of ours works near there, she sent us this marker we had no idea that this is what it was,” Walker said thinking quickly on his feet. “Does she work there?” the thing said. “I don’t think so,” Walker frowned, and I shrugged when the thing looked at me. “She is not that type of girl I think.” “Very well,” the thing said. “Have a pleasant afternoon.” With that the thing floated away. “Pup what the hell did it mean by lewder services?” I asked. “My dad once told me about these places where you can go to have s*x with people for money.” Walker frowned. “That’s disgusting,” I said. “That is what I said too,” Walker said. “Why the devil is this thing showing us that place then?” I said. “I have no idea,” Walker said. “I guess we should find out,” I said, and we started heading towards this SIX Service Inc. thing that was two miles away. The thought that the city could be that big had not even begun to come to my mind.
