The hidden secret
There lived a couple who were married, they were popularly called the basseys, mr Sola bassey was a farmer who had great profit from his farming business, due to the great harvest and selling which leads to a great profit for mr Sola. Mr sola's wife mrs bassey anuoluwa was a trader who sells foodstuffs and both agricultural products.
After some years mr Sola bassey and mrs anu bassey's marriage they were unable to give birth for the past ten years, they passed through a lot in the village of azuna, they were mocked and abused by the villagers, mrs bassey and her husband decided to go and visit the herbalist in order to check out the problem of Mrs bassey in case if it is an issue that can be solved easily.
So when Mr Sola bassey and his wife mrs and his wife mrs anu bassey approached the herbalist shrine he told them to stop there and wash there hands before they enter because they were cursed, immediately they entered the shrine after they washed their hands mr Sola popped out a question and asked the herbalist :wise one please why did you ask us to wash our hands, because they knew that when others came to the shrine they did not wash their hands, mr Sola bassey asked the herbalist popularly known as babalawo in the yoruba language, the herbalist replied saying :only those who are cursed are those who wash their hands before they enter my shrine, "oh my God", mrs bassey shouted, her husband tried to call her down, then Mr Sola bassey asked the herbalist if he could explain what he was trying to say, then the herbalist started thus :the situation going on in your lives is a curse, a great curse, on hearing this mrs anu bassey began to panic, ooh my God, mrs anu bassey said as she holds mr bassey on the hand and began to sob profusely. So what are we going to do to solve this problem, mr Sola bassey said to the herbalist, me myself I do not know what to do, the fact that I am a herbalist does not mean that I can do all things, besides I am just a messenger of the gods and nothing more than that, there is absolutely nothing I can do to help you mr Sola bassey, the herbalist said as he nodded his head in displeasure, aaah wise one please I am begging you, please can you go and consult your gods again and this time tell them to name whatever they want and be rest assured that I and my husband will surely bring it to them, said mrs anu bassey as she knelt down to beg the herbalist to help them, woman there is nothing I or even the gods can do to solve your problem, but I think I know what to do to help you at least a little bit, there is another native doctor who is more powerful than I am and I think he would be of great help to you, the herbalist said as he began incantations, aah wise one please where does he stays at, where is his shrine located in, which town or village is he staying in, mr Sola bassey asked, he stays very very far from here, you will have to cross seven rivers before you can locate his shrine but before you leave make sure you take at least one goat and two kegs of palm wine for sacrifice to the gods, the herbalist said, okay no problem, thank you wise one for helping us out in your own way we really appreciate it, mr Sola bassey said as they took their leave. very very early the next morning Mr Sola bassey and his wife started the journey to the native doctor's shrine they started by by crossing the seven rivers in which the other herbalist told them would happen when they got there exactly what the other herbalist told them would happen displayed, they both was asked to wash their hands in which they did, then the native doctor said to them that they were cursed and was nothing tangible for him to do, so he referred them to another native doctor, he first told them to sacrifice a goat and two kegs of palm wine but none of this was able to convince the gods so the herbalist referred them to another native doctor was more powerful than the one which they came looking for, so the herbalist told them that they would have to cross ten rivers and go along with two goats and three kegs of palm wine, they both thanked the herbalist and left, the next morning they left for the other native doctor which was referred to them by the previous native doctor, when they got there they both washed their hands and the native doctor told them to sacrifice two goats and three kegs of palm wine to the gods they did all of that but at the end of the day it was still an heart breaking disappointment.
Mr bassey and his wife went back home very tired and sleepy, they tried all their possible best to have a child or two and to cancel the generational curse that was placed on them, they both gave up from seeing native doctors which will turn out to be a natural disaster or disappointment, one morning as mrs anu bassey was going to the market she slipped and fell into a open gutter, her cloth was stained with the feaces and urine and waste in the gutter, people laughed at her and made gest of her then one of the women that was amongst the mockers said "the fat elephant has fallen to the ground oooo" as they all began to laugh hardly at her, then a little boy which was at the age of nine came to her and helped her out of the gutter even though he did not have enough energy to lift her up, but he tried his possible best to bring her out of the gutter and then he quickly rushed to a nearby tap and brought her a bucket of water and a towel to clean off the stinking dirts and stains, he also brought her deodorant to reduce the smell on her body, after she was done with cleaning herself up she thanked the little boy who was an orphan and stayed in an uncomfortable and uncompleted building near the market square, she gave him a token of three thousand naira he rejected it at first so she insisted and then the boy accepted it and left when she got home she narrated the whole story to her husband, she felt so very ashamed of herself as she was coming back home
She began to cry, and then she realized that she was hated by the people in the town because she was helped by a little boy not by an adult, she was also surprised but at least she was encouraged by the little boy who came to help, but what she did not know was that she was free from the curse all what she needed was to have faith in order for her joy to be full, from the moment that little boy held her hands she became free from the curse but she was not aware of it, the little boy was not just a little boy he was also sent by the lord to help mrs anu bassey who has lost faith, the little boy who helped mrs bassey was also helped by a wealthy woman who was passing by the town when she saw the little boy, she felt pity for him then she decided to meet him, so she went to him and said to him, good day handsome ", he then replied her by saying good day ma how may I be of help to you", she then replied him by saying little boy I have not come for you to help me but I have come to help you ", he then said ma help me how", she then said to him where are your parents and what are you doing in this uncompleted building, he then said, ma I am an orphan, my parents died in a train accident, the track was unfinished which made their train run out of track and fell into a ditch and exploded, as the little boy spoke tears rolled down his cute cheeks, the woman felt pity for him, she then asked him, little boy what's your name, he then replied, my name is David and you're, she then replied, I'm miss Cynthia and I am a philanthropist, I was passing by the town to look for the less privelledged and then I found you, look my dear you really help and I have come to give you that best required help that you need, he then replied, ma you are a stranger besides I do not even know you but I think I need help but I also need to know the person that wants to help me out, miss Cynthia replied, david you can always trust me, I lost my son, he died at the age of ten, I was so very discouraged, after the end of that month I lost my husband, now I am a widow and a childless woman I suffered for five years not until a woman named mrs timileyin bassey helped her out, then I took her as my mother, mrs timileyin bassey also had a son a grown up son, l did not know what his name was, he was old enough to get married. Unknown to miss Cynthia she was lost in thought, she forgot that she was talking to a small boy, the boy began to call her, he tapped her until she regain herself, he then said ma please is there any thing bothering you, she then replied, nothing my dear, please can you just do me a favour, he then said, ma what do you want me to do, she then said to him, please is there anything that is still useful here that you can take with you, he then said ma everything is useful for me ma, she then laughed and said please let us go to somewhere better than this place, let us go to my house, and do not be scared of me I am not an harmful person please trust me and follow me, he then stood up and took his torned clothes and wore his faded and dirty slippers, when miss Cynthia saw this she felt pity for him, she then called him and said to him, please drop these clothes and pull off those slippers, we are going to drop by a boutique and a*****e where we can get you a good clothe and good shoes, david was very very happy, he then dropped the clothes and followed miss Cynthia.
Mr Sola and his wife were still battling on their case one afternoon they both sat down and began to talk about the situation in their lives and then mr Sola bassey remembered something while he was still in search for a wife him and his mother had an issue about looking for a good job and a wife they both fought with words and then his mother said something out of anger, but that in which he could not remember at all, he was lost in thoughts, then his wife noticed it, so she began to tap him but mr Sola bassey was deeply lost in thoughts so mrs anu bassey stood up and went to bring a bowl of water, when she got back to the room she sprinkled it on mr Sola's face and then he got himself, mrs bassey then said to him
Mr bassey what are you thinking about that you have gone so far in your thoughts do you mind to share, he then replied her, my wife there is nothing in my mind my dear, she then said to him you can't lie to me I have been with you for the past few years and I know what you do what you think and how you operate and you are sitted here telling me that nothing is going on with you, please you know that you can tell me anything you can share with me, please tell me I beg you my husband, he then replied her and said to her I was just remembering when me and my mom were having an argument of me getting married to a a woman that has good character, and then my mom told me that she would help me look for a wife and then two months later she found a woman that I would get married to, I did see the woman, I didn't even know her name, one day my mother forced her to enter my room, then that was when I saw her face but I didn't know her name, then this whole drama was what made me look for a woman whom I will marry and then I decided to go to visit some villages in search for a wife material, all the women I have met in that village do not love me at all they just behave to love me just because I was one of the richest hunters then and then I gave up on all the women and then I was moved to make my way into Akuma village and that was where I Saw you, when I got back home from my journey I told my mom not to bother going in search for a wife for me again that I have found a woman I want to get married to and then my mother asked me if the woman was from this town and I told her that she was not from this town, all I expected from my mother was to be happy for me but it resulted into another argument, she then said, if you don't go back and search for a woman from this town you will not like what I am going to do you, I then replied my mom I told her that I have found a woman that I am interested in and I want to make the mother of my children and I am not going to change that, she then said you can dare me and see the other side of your mom, she then left, then I sat down and began to think of myself and my life, but I never gave up and then a year later I got married to you anu, my mother did not come for my marriage and my father was late there was no one to stand there for me so that was why our marriage was somehow awkward, few months after our marriage I went to visit my mother as a good son would behave to his mother, when I got there she said to me, Sola did you know that the woman that I wanted you to marry has already been married out by one of the richest men in the city and that lady was so wonderful and beautiful, aah sola you caused me pains because of this I...........,mr Sola bassey could not remember what she said because he was not paying rare attention to what she was saying.
After the discussion mrs anu nodded and said to mr Sola bassey, it is well, she then told him to forget about all that has happened in the past, she then cracked up a joke to make him laugh, she then told him to come to the sitting room and have his meal and then after have some rest. The next day mrs bassey cooked food and went to look for the little boy that helped the day she fell into the gutter in order for her to give him the food, she also took money so that she could get him some new clothes and shoes and take him in as their first child, but before she took this step she asked her husband for the permission and his decision and then he agreed, so mrs anu bassey decided to go to the uncompleted building where he laid on getting there she could not find him she searched all over the place but he was not there and then a man came and said to her in a pidgin language, the boy wey dey Stay for here don go oo na one rich woman come here come carry am go oo, meaning that the little boy that was here had been taken away from this place by a rich woman, when mrs anu bassey heard this she was so happy for him and then she went back home and told her husband what happened to the little boy that helped her out and they were both very happy for him. The little boy on the other hand was given the best education in which he needed to be a great person in the future, he had enough clothes and shoes to the extent that his clothes and shoes were able to be shared for the Children in his town and it will still remain in his closets, David the little boy also had enough to eat and drink, miss Cynthia gave him all that he needed and asked for, she took him as her son and then miss Cynthia decided to adopt david as her son because she loved him so much, miss Cynthia travelled out of the country with David. Mrs bassey who was still in shock about the good news of the little boy, she felt a little bit sad because she forgot to ask the little boy what his name was, she then said to herself may God bless the little boy wherever you are, she then nodded and smiled, ooh how I wish you were my child, mrs bassey said to herself, I hope that the woman that came to carry him will treat him like her own son, mr Sola bassey said as he looks at mrs anu bassey, I hope so too, mrs bassey said, I pray that God will give us our own children too, mr Sola bassey said, amen ooo my husband, mrs anu bassey said, then mr Sola bassey said, ehn about prayers anu don't you think we need to visit the church of God, there might be a solution to this problem there oo, mrs anu bassey then said to him, me I do not know oo because there are so many fake pastors, or have you forgotten why we left Christianity when there were a lot of fake pastors, that they would demand for a large sum of money and because we want to pay the money we will then be indebted because we would borrow money from so many people and then we will be disgraced by people just because of the large amounts of debt that we owe them, I also remember when I was poured a bucket of water because of the debt that I owed one of the market women, ever since that faithful day no one agreed to borrow or lend them money again, and sola I also remembered that the pastors will run away from the church with their hard earned money and later end up with nothing, Sola I was so disappointed and severely angered from that day on I hated Christianity then mr sola said, anu it was not only you that was embarrassed I was also embarrassed too, I remembered when I borrowed money from one of my fellow fisherman named bade, and I promised to pay him back at the end of the month and then it got to the end of the month and I was not able to pay back, bade started shouting at the top of his voice which made the other fishermen gather round us and they began to mock me, I felt so disgraced and embarrassed, I went home unhappy that day, the next day I had to make the payment for the debt I collected from bade and I also had to change the river in which I go for fishing to the other one located few miles away from the market square, ever since then I hated borrowing money from fishermen to pay a particular amount of money, and later at the end of the day we found out that it was a very painful disappointment, then mr Sola bassey continued by saying, anu but you and I know that there are still some real powerful pastors, do you remember that my old friend tola his wife was also going through what you are going through, she could not give birth to a child because she was cursed and then her husband told me that they both went to the city to meet a pastor who prayed for them and the curse was broken, so you know that we can still fix this problem for long and you did not tell me eeh sola, mrs bassey said as she looked at mr bassey with desperation in her eyes, mr bassey then said to her, please I'm so sorry it's not my fault I thought that you would decline going to see a pastor, she then said to him, it's okay, so how can we get in touch with the same pastor that helped tola and his wife, he then said to her, I obviously do not know but I will make sure to ask him when I see him tomorrow, eehn which tomorrow, go to his house and ask him so that we can get on the journey to the place where the pastor is, mrs bassey said, her husband then said to her isn't that too fast why don't you wait till tomorrow, besides the man in topic is not around he is coming back from where he went to tomorrow and that was why I told you to wait till the next day, mrs bassey then replied, okay oo let me go and rest till tomorrow and I hope and pray that we find favour tomorrow, mrs bassey said as she stood up and goes to bed because it was already late at night, goodnight, mr Sola bassey said as he also goes to bed.
Then the next morning Mr Sola bassey was surprised to see his wife already working, she prepared breakfast around five o clockam, she then also packed up a bag for food, water and drinks incase if it was a very long journey, she also took some of her pocket money incase if it was needed for something that might be very urgent or useful, mr Sola bassey just stood at the door to their room and stared at her and nodded and smiled and said to himself, this woman ee when it comes to what concerns her family she makes sure that she gets it, mr Sola bassey said as he smiled and went back into his room to rest, few hours later when it was already 7:00am on the dot mrs anu bassey quickly rushed out of the kitchen to the rest room to go take her bath although her husband had already taken his bath and was also already prepared to go out on their journey, few minutes later mrs anu bassey was done with taking her bath, she then dressed up and together with her husband they both left the house on a visit to adetola Mr Sola bassey's old friend around the neighboring village, when they arrived at his place, the whole place was so dirty and Scary with grass hugging the windows of the compound and dirts wavering round the compound because of the strong force of the wavering breeze, mrs anu stood at the side of the house raising her neck to check out for anyone who might be staying around, but there was obviously no one there few minutes later a woman was walking pass by the house where mr Sola bassey and his wife stood, and she said to them, please who are you looking for, the woman said as she dropped down the load that she was carrying, please we are looking for a man named Adetola, he is my old friend and he is also my very good friend, please can you help us, mr Sola bassey said, the woman then replied, him and his wife moved out of this town because of his new job in the city side, the woman said, okay please where in the city is he staying at, mr Sola bassey said, I heard that he stays at the junction after the popular hotel in the city, she said, okay thank you very much, mrs bassey said as she knelt down, and stood up and they began to go on another journey to the city side, as they were in the vehicle mr Sola bassey began to get hungry and he then asked his wife for food, so she gave him some food to eat as they both ate together and slept when they got to the city, the driver woke them up and they came down from the vehicle and went straight to the place that was directed to them by the woman who they met earlier at mr tola's former house back in the town, they also began to ask people about him and for directions and few minutes later they got to his house, they knocked at the gate and then mrs Debby adetola rushed to the gate and opened it though she did not know who they were not until mr adetola came out to the gate and saw his friend they both embraced themselves, from that moment mrs adetola knew that they were close friends to her husband, mr Sola bassey and his wife were both welcomed nicely into their house, they all sat down comfortably on the soft sofa, mr Sola bassey and his wife were offered drinks and food, but they refused to collect it because they had already eaten in the vehicle before they came, so it was later in the evening that they ate, mr Sola bassey and his wife were to spend two nights with mr and mrs adetola, the next day mr Sola sat down with his friend mr tola and they began to gist and remember their childhood memories, few seconds later mr Sola bassey began to share with his friend the situation of him and his wife and then after he finished explaining, his friend mr tola told him to calm down and keep trusting God for the fruit of the womb, he also told him to have faith in God but there was an hidden secret that even mr Sola was not aware of since the day he got married to mrs anu bassey but there is a saying that "nothing is hidden under the sun", soon after the discussion between the two friends the wives of the house came to where their husbands were sitting and told them that the dinner was ready and that they should go to the dining table to have their dinner while they the wives clean up the kitchen and join them at the table after they are done with the work in the kitchen, mr Sola bassey and his friend quickly stood up and went straight to the table to have their dinner later on the wives of the house came to join them at the dining table for their dinner as they all gisted and laughed together in peace and happiness
Then later the next day mrs anu bassey and mrs adetola sat down together on a bench outside the house picking beans together, as mrs anu bassey asked mrs adetola a question, please ma how did you overcome barreness, although mrs adetola was shocked by the question because she did not know that they literally came to their house in order to find solutions to their problem, please mrs bassey how did you get to know that I was once barren, mrs adetola asked with surprise, oh ma my husband knows your husband so very much and they were also childhood friends, so your husband told my husband and that was how I knew that you were once barren, mrs bassey said to mrs adetola how did you get out of the grip of bareness, mrs adetola then said my sister it's a long story but I'll try to caught it short for you, my husband found a church on his way home one afternoon, he saw the way healings and miracles were going on in the church, so the next day we decided to pay a visit to the church for a service and it was that same day that I was free from the grip of bareness, my sister I think you and your husband should try the church tomorrow it's a Sunday, mrs adetola said, yes you are right I think I and my husband will go there tomorrow as it is a Sunday tomorrow, mrs bassey said as she thanked Mrs adetola and they both went inside. The next morning Mr bassey and his wife were on their way to the church they collected the address from Mr adetola and went to the church, when they got there they were given seats to sit on, after the service the pastor asked to speak with them, when they got into his office, the pastor greeted them and exchanged greeting, the pastor then said Mr
