Chapter 3 - Welcome

801 Words
POV: Eung Aey The time has come for me to study in England as a scholarship student. It's the first time a girl from a humble background like me gets to fly, and I was so excited that I could hardly sleep. “Ohm, take good care of grandma, okay? I'll call you often.” I told my younger brother. Ohm is currently in high school. “Yes, I'll take care of grandma, don't worry," my brother, who is obedient and not mischievous, replied. “Grandma, I have to go now. It'll be a long time before I can return to Thailand. I promise that once I graduate, I'll work hard to save a lot of money, and then we'll move to a new house together, grandma.” “Have a safe journey, my dear. Study hard. Grandma is waiting for your diploma at home.” Grandma said as she gently stroked my head, nearly bringing me to tears because I've never been away from her since I was a child. But today, I have to cross the ocean to a distant land. “I'll study hard and bring the diploma to you, grandma.” I said, hugging my grandma and brother tightly. I applied for the scholarship to have more options in life. Graduating abroad might open up more job opportunities. After saying goodbye to grandma and my brother, I walked out of the house and called a taxi to take me to the airport. Cha-em and Meen were already waiting at the airport. “Aey, over here!” Meen waved her hand to catch my attention as I dragged my suitcase, looking around nervously. As soon as I saw my friends, I rushed over to them. “Why are you so late?” Cha-em asked. “I was saying goodbye to Grandma and my brother. It’s so sad. Sometimes I feel like I want to give up this opportunity and come back to study in Thailand to take care of Grandma.” "Are you crazy? You were studying hard to get a scholarship to become an exchange student abroad. Didn't you say you wanted a better life?" “Exactly! You haven't even boarded the plane yet, and you're already discouraged. Aren't you afraid of encountering that creep someday? Have you forgotten?” When I heard Meen speak, chills ran down my spine. The incident of my kidnapping last month has made me live in constant fear. Recently, there’s been someone who keeps walking past my house, lurking around. It’s very frightening. "When you say things like that, it scares me." “Let's go, it's time to board the plane,” Cha-em said, checking her watch. “W-wait, m-my legs are shaking,” I said, grabbing my friends' arms. My legs were really trembling. “None of us have ever flown before, so don't be scared. It's an experience of a lifetime. Let's go,” Cha-em and Meen said, dragging me along. Honestly, once on the plane, I felt like asking the staff for sleeping pills to sleep all the way to England. I could hardly breathe, and my heart was pounding. After spending a whole day on the plane, flying across the sea, we finally arrived in England. Language wasn't a concern for my friends and me since we could already speak it. We waited for someone to pick us up to our accommodation. It wasn't long before a man in a suit came over with a bouquet of flowers. "Hello, I am Mr. Thanadol's representative, I am here to take you to your accommodation. We have arranged a hotel for the three of you." My friends and I widened our eyes. Are we really going to stay at a hotel, even though we're just exchange students? "For you, Eung-aey." The bouquet of flowers was handed to me. Not only was I surprised, but Cha-em and Meen were equally shocked. "F-For me?" I accepted the bouquet of roses in confusion, then noticed a card and picked it up to read. The card simply said, "Welcome." It seemed to be prepared for the exchange students. "I will take the three of you to the hotel. As for you, Eung-aey, you have to meet Mr. Plerng this evening." "Huh?" I frowned, not understanding. "Who is Mr. Plerng, and why do I have to meet him?" "There's nothing to worry about, rest assured. Mr. Plerng is the son of Mr. Thanadol, who provided your scholarship." "Th-Then why am I the only one meeting him?" "He doesn't like meeting many people, so he arranged to meet people one-on-one, just to get acquainted." "Oh, I see." Although I didn't quite understand, I nodded as if I did. Since he is the scholarship provider, the one who has given me this opportunity, I couldn't refuse.
