Chapter 2 - What a Coincidence

662 Words
POV: Plerng England I arrived at the warehouse in a foul mood. Fortunately, my subordinates managed to control the fire, but there was still considerable damage. “How did you let it catch fire?” “Hey, bro! I can’t watch it all the time, can I? I don’t stay up every night to know when those guys will play dirty.” This guy is Fai, my younger brother. "Is it them?" “Who else could it be if not them?” I clenched my fists tightly; they really wouldn’t let go. I run a shady business, so it’s natural to have enemies all around. But there’s only one group that won’t let go—the Karens. They run a dark business just like mine. Recently, I’ve expanded my business to several countries, and I must have inadvertently stepped on their toes. “Tell Ken to meet me at the office,” I ordered my subordinate. "Yes, sir." "Are you heading back to the office with me?" Fai asked me. "Yeah." I don’t want to stay and see the burned-down warehouse. I’m afraid I won’t be able to resist the urge to storm in and shoot them. For now, I’ll let them feel triumphant, and then I’ll settle the score later. At the Company The company in question is an illegal trading company, while my father manages the legitimate one. He entrusted Fai and me to take care of these businesses. There was a knock at the door as Fai and I were talking. "Come in." The person who walked in was Ken, my close subordinate. "Do you want me to handle them now, boss?" "Not yet." "Why not?" Fai asked. "It's not yet the time," I told my brother, then asked Ken, "What's the damage value?" "From what I see, fortunately, the fire didn't spread to the storage zone. It only burned the stock items. The damage is about thirty million, sir." "Hmm, take care of it." "There's another matter, sir." "Go on." “The exchange students you funded, there are three of them who scored the highest. Here is their file.” A black folder was placed in front of me. “Why didn’t you show it to my father?” “The boss said he wanted you to handle this.” “Father probably wants you to have a record of doing something good for a change.” I opened the file, looking at each page. They're just students who got scholarships, nothing to be overly concerned about. But when I reached the last page, I stared at the woman in the photo without blinking, thinking to myself how small the world really is. "Eung-aey," I read her name with interest. I can't help but be interested because she's the woman I took back to the hotel before returning to England. Her charming face and full lips are still etched in my mind. Thinking back, it's a shame to have let such a great opportunity slip away. I didn't expect such a coincidence, but it's a stroke of luck; it saves me the trouble of searching for her. "This one is named Eung-aey. She scored the highest marks, sir." "Interesting," I said, looking at the picture. "Let me see," Fai was about to look at the file, but I pulled it away before he could reach it. "Why are you so protective over just an exchange student?" "When is she scheduled to arrive in England?" I asked Ken. "Early next month, sir." "Eung-aey, what a lovely name. Huh!" I muttered before instructing my close subordinate, "When she arrives in England, arrange for a bouquet to welcome her at the airport." Both Fai and Ken frowned at me in surprise upon hearing that order. "Who is she, an ex-wife of yours?" "Have you ever seen me settled down?" "True, you usually just hook up and move on. But who is this woman that you're so interested in?" "A new fling."
