FROM RAGS TO RICHES, AND BACK.

You know the feeling of feeling like you're worthless? Feeling like everything you do doesn't matter. Well that's my life . I've spent years trying to impress my mom, trying to make her proud of me.I always made sure to get the highest marks at school,stay a virgin until I finish school but she never cared.She just kept on bringing different men in my life , telling me to call them dad. My dad died when I was seven years old , and for a 7 years old kid, I took the news really well.After my father's death my mom became distant. She lashed out on me all the time, even when I drop a spoon you'd swear I killed someone. Two years passed and she started abusing alcohol. She would leave in the morning without preparing me for school and come back late reeking of alcohol and beat me till I'm black and blue. I slept with my pillow wet , every night.I thought she would change and be a good mom again and take care of me. I love my mom more that anything in this world but today I'm choosing me. I've bared the abuse because I needed shelter but not anymore. Today I'm leaving .I passed my matric with a bachelor and 5 distinctions and got a scholarship at the University of Cape Town. I'm finally leaving all the pain I've felt all these years. Oh sorry I didn't introduce myself.My name is Emihle Mbonjwa. I just turned eighteen in December.
