Betrayal
"Let's get a divorce!”
Kathrine was shocked by her husband statement, Ethan Xavier. That day, an argument broke out in their home. Kathrine was angry because Ethan had brought his mistress. They made out openly in front of Kathrine.
Kathrine felt hurt. After two years of marriage, Kathrine felt betrayed. Two years ago, they got married and became a very happy couple. Although they were originally married by Ethan's grandmother, they agreed and accepted the match happily.
Kathrine is an orphan girl who works as a nurse for Ethan's grandmother who is old and often sick. Kathrine's kindness and sincerity made Ethan's grandmother like her and set her up with her grandson. Ethan, who only lived alone with his grandmother, also accepted the match.
"What did you say? Divorced? You brought your mistress to our home and filed for divorce because of this woman?" Kathrine protested. She really didn't expect Ethan to divorce her.
"You're the one who interrupted both of our fun. You should realize, this is my home. I am free to bring anyone into this house, a mistress or another wife," Ethan retorted haughtily.
"But I'm your wife. You should have taken care of my feelings. But you're having an affair with a woman who likes to snatch other women's husbands," Kathrine said sarcastically to Ethan's affair. But the woman also showed her arrogance.
"Ethan has loved me since you weren't married. If you want to know, we've been dating since we were in college. So I don't feel like I've taken Ethan away from you. You are the one who is the bully in our relationship," replied Ethan's mistress, Grace Hailey.
Grace's statement made Kathrine even more hurt. She was the victim of their affair. But she was considered a nuisance in the relationship between the two lovers.
“If you had a special relationship with Ethan before me, why didn't you marry him?” Kathrine said.
“Because I'm not a stupid woman like you!” Grace retorted.
"I married you because of grandma's request. I couldn't refuse her request to marry you," Ethan said.
"That's funny. For two years we were husband and wife. I catered to all your needs, and you behaved like a good husband to me. I thought we were living a normal married life and we loved each other. But today you're saying all this just because of grandma?" Kathrine said. She couldn't believe it.
"Grandma likes you because you take good care of her. But your kindness to her couldn't make me truly love you."
"So now that she's dead, do you want a divorce? You want to dump me?" Kathrine said. She felt disappointed.
“Things that are no longer needed should be thrown away, Kath,” Grace said.
"You used to be needed because of grandmother. But now, Ethan doesn't need you because the only woman he wants is me. Only Grace Hailey. Compare yourself to me. You're just an orphan girl who's a maid in this house. Even after marrying rich Ethan, you're still useless. You're just a burden in the house. As for me, I'm sure you've heard about Hailey's family fame. I deserve to be Ethan's wife more than you do," Grace said patronizingly to Kathrine.
"What? I'm useless? Every day I take care of Ethan's needs. I take care of this house, so Ethan can have a comfortable place to come home to," Kathrine retorted defensively.
"If Ethan felt comfortable coming home to you and to this house, he wouldn't come and look for me. That means you have failed. Your efforts have been in vain. I will tell you our plan all along. Ethan purposely married you to fulfill grandmother's request. He did it all because he loved me so much. Ethan didn't want me to have the hassle of taking care of an old grandmother. She won't live forever anyway. After she dies, we'll get married. Isn't that a very smart plan?" Grace said as she hugged Ethan tightly.
Kathrine was very disappointed. She felt she had been played and used. But Ethan also didn't feel like he owed Kathrine for taking care of his grandmother. Ethan thought that giving Kathrine a place to stay and food to eat was enough as payment for her services.
Kathrine didn't expect her marriage to end in divorce. But she also couldn't stand the infidelity. Moreover, Grace admitted that Ethan had often met her secretly. They even went on vacation together without Kathrine's knowledge. While Kathrine is just a wife who takes care of the house.
Now Kathrine understood why Ethan had never invited her to parties or company events. Ethan had been accompanied by Grace. Kathrine felt disrespected as a wife.
Ethan was a wealthy manager in a big company but left Kathrine busy taking care of the house alone. Whereas Ethan could pay for the services of a household assistant. Kathrine just realized that Ethan was treating her like a maid.
"For the two years we have been married, I have loved you sincerely. I never thought I would get this kind of reply from you," Kathrine said, disappointed.
“It was your fault for accepting grandmother's arranged marriage to a man who didn't love you,” Ethan shot back, blaming Kathrine.
"Forget the past, Ethan. It's time for us to build our happy love story," Grace added, hugging Ethan proudly.
Meanwhile, Kathrine was like a fool watching their intimacy. Actually, Kathrine was not a woman who was easily discouraged. It didn't matter to her if she had to divorce from Ethan. She could continue her own life. But there was one thing that bothered her.
"Our marriage may not be based on love and you want a divorce. But have you forgotten that I'm pregnant right now? What will happen to our child?" Kathrine asked. She ran her hand over her growing belly.
“Our child? That's not mine, Kathrine,” Ethan refused. Grace laughed beside him. Kathrine felt confused.
“What do you mean by saying this child is not ours?” Kathrine asked.
"Have you forgotten that you got pregnant because of insemination at the hospital? The sperm was not mine but another man's."
“What?”
