Just another day
(Meghan’s POV)
I can’t believe I’m turning 18 next week I say to no one in particular. I’m standing in my room looking in my full length mirror. I’ve never really thought much about my appearance, I consider myself average. A voice in my head says “you’re far from average”, I keep gazing in the mirror and ignore the voice. I’m 5 foot 9, taller than anyone in my family but of course I am adopted so who knows who i really take after. My long brown hair waves slightly and my slightly olive skin and hazel eyes are a stark contrast to my sisters fair skin, blond hair and blue eyes.
My sister yells to me “Meghan it’s time for school, are you ready?” I shake my head and come out of my daze of self evaluation and rush to get dressed.
After throwing on a simple sundress and low booties i throw my hair in a messy bun and apply a little eye liner and gloss… Sienna yells again… “ok I’m coming” i yell back.
I jump in the drivers seat of my car and my younger sister sits in the passenger seat and shifts impatiently knowing we’re going to be late again. I smile awkwardly and she knowingly nods. “Have you been hearing the voice again Meghan?” I just look down at the radio and nod. It’s fine Sienna I’ll just ask mom if we can see about changing my medicine dose again. I’m ok. The rest of the drive to school is quiet and thankfully my sister drops the subject. I love my sister and i know she loves me but my mental health issues definitely embarrass her.
I pull into a parking spot at our high school and Sienna jumps out and waves. A group of her friends wait for her giggling they walk arm and arm to the building. I wish it were that easy for me but i just feel so different, i don’t make friends as easily.
I proceed to lock the car and across the lot i see him. Eric Phillips, he’s a senior also and I’ve probably had 20 different classes with him in the last 4 years of high school but he’d never pay any attention to me. Breaking me out of my longing gaze, she walks up… Kelli Jacobs, cheerleader, homecoming queen and Eric’s girlfriend. “Uh Eric that freak is staring again” she looks down at the scar on her arm disapprovingly. I quick turn my head and shuffle things around in my arms and bam I run right into someone. Books scattered everywhere Chris Martins looks down and says “too busy talking to the voices in your head to pay attention to where you’re going?” The voice grumbles and calls him stupid, i shake my head hard and pick up my things as everyone laughs. I quickly run to home room.
