Renatta’s POV
Twenty years. It has been twenty years since my eyes have seen the four people standing in front of me. When I woke up on this ordinary Tuesday, the last thing I expected to happen was to see my mother, father, sister and brother at the market. But here they are. If I know my family, they are waiting for me to make a move, but my mom’s patience is going to give out soon. I notice when she starts to fidget. So, I walk up to her
“Hi Mom” I say right before she crushes me in a hug and starts crying.
Now we are all hugging and crying in the middle of the open market. Luckily, only supernatural live in this area, because I think we would be scaring any humans. We finally separated
“What are you all doing here?” I ask
“Looking for you. Do you know how long you have been gone? You took the longest trip ever” Kyle jokes
“So much has happened” I start
“If you are talking about getting kidnapped, having a baby, using your magic to protect that baby and not coming home? Yeah, we know” Dad says
“You know about the baby?” I ask
“Yes, we have a relationship with that beautiful girl and her blood is what helped us finally find you. Her parents gave her your letters and she found us when she was 15. We read the letter for us. We know all about that” Susan said
“If you know everything, you know I can’t go home. I have very little magic left; the coven won’t accept me” I reply
“I am the coven mother, and I wish someone would say you couldn’t be there. You are my sister, you are welcome at the coven, no matter what species you are” Susan says sternly
“We really do need to talk though. Can you come back with us now?” Kyle asks
“Yes, just let me make a phone call”
We portaled back to the coven. They showed me around and all the expansion and upgrades that have occurred over the years. I met one of Kyles twins, learning that the other is with her mate. I also met Susan’s son, who is 2 years old. Now, I am waiting to meet my daughter for the first time in over 18 years. What do you say to someone you left in a stranger’s car? I know my actions had good intentions, but she may not see it that way? Did she have a good life? Will she hate me? I have asked myself these questions since I watched the couple strap her in a car seat and drive off with her, but I’m about to get the answers to those questions, and I am a nervous wreck. There is also a lot I need to tell my family, but I guess one step at a time.
Everyone walks back into the office with a short girl. She has caramel-colored skin and long curly hair. She has her dad’s gold-colored eyes, but the rest is like me. Her body type, facial features and stance. There is my daughter. I can’t believe I am staring at her after all these years. My mom makes a cute introduction. But we just stood there staring at each other. I don’t know how to approach her. What do I say? Hi, it just doesn’t seem like enough. But a hug may be too much, even though that’s what I want to do right now.
“I don’t know what the proper protocol is in a situation like this. I have been waiting years to meet you, but I never knew what I would do when I did” she said, and I smiled in response.
“I don’t know about you, but I’m a touchy-feely person. So, can I hug you?” she asks as she starts to cry
I nod and she crashes into me. We are both crying in an all-encompassing bear hug. I don’t know how long we had been this way until I heard the door open, and another couple comes into the office. The woman runs and hugs us both as she is crying. We finally separated and introductions are made. I meet her witch cousins, her big brother Zach, who I had met some years ago. I’m glad they finally found each other. I met her adopted parents and all the werewolves. I guess it’s now or never. It’s time for my surprise
“There is someone I want you all to meet also” I open a portal and my mate steps out
“Everyone, this is Warren, my mate and beloved, and that is Cora, our daughter. Yes, he is a vampire. He is the head of his clan. Cora is not mine biologically, but she is mine by heart. I tell them in response to the shock
Against the advisement of her mates, Desiree is the first to greet them. She whispers to me ‘does he know’? I nod and she continues
“Hi Warren, I’m Desiree. I am Renatta’s daughter” she says, shaking his hand
“Well, hello little lady. I have heard about you for years. You look just like my Renatta, just as beautiful” he replied
“You are the first vampire I have ever met. I have so many questions for you” she says
“Our species don’t always get along, but my clan has no problems with werewolves. I am here to answer any questions you have”. He smiles at her
“Good, cause you are like my stepdad now” she remarks
“I guess I am”
“That makes you my sister Cora” Desiree says, hugging her
“Mom talks about you all the time. It’s nice to finally meet you” Cora adds
“We have got to get together and learn about each other. I’ve never been to a vampire clan”
“And I have never been to a werewolf pack”
“We are going to have so much fun”
“Who is that guy with eyes like yours” Cora whispers to Desiree
“That’s my brother Zach”
“I think he’s my beloved” Cora whispers
“SHUT UP! SERIOUSLY?” Desiree screams
“Zach? Cora’s your mate?” Desiree asks him
“Yeah!! And I’m trying to hold myself together because I don’t want her dad to kill me for touching her” he replies
“Warren?” I question him
“I’m okay with it if Cora is, but we will talk later” Warren says
Cora shakes her head smiling and Zach launches at her, lifting and twirling her around. Both of them smiling and giggling. He puts her down and kisses her passionately.
“Cool! Let me introduce you to everyone else. Don’t worry, they will like you once they get to know you” she pulls him with her.
Desiree introduces Warren and Cora to everyone. I knew there would be a lot of hesitation with their introductions, especially with the werewolves around. But Desiree made this so much easier. I am so proud of her. While everyone is talking, Desiree’s parents come up to me
“We wanted to say ‘thank you’ to you. We know it was difficult to make the decision you made, but you blessed us with so much more than we could ever put into words. Thank you for allowing us to raise Desiree. Providing us with the chance to be parents and to experience such love and joy. We had accepted that it would never happen to us, and then you left us this special gift…” Mary Maxwell says
“No, thank you. For being the wonderful people, I prayed and felt you were. For taking her in and being parents, she needed. For loving her, raising her and guiding her. For being there when I could not and being everything, she needs. I thank you!”
We hugged each other. I could not have wished for better parents for my daughter. I thank all the gods and goddesses that this worked out so well. We all spent the rest of the day getting to know each other. Talking about future plans like the kid’s ceremony to take over the pack and making plans to visit. I have two younger children with Warren that Desiree needs to meet. Zach is coming back with us, so Cora can pack. They decided she would live in the pack with him. We all exchange phone numbers and plan to keep in touch
“Mama Nat? Poppa Warren? Yeah, I like that. Are you okay with me calling you guys that?” Desiree asks
“I love it” I reply and Warren shook his head
“Great! Mama Nat, can you come with us to help me pick out my dress for my Luna ceremony? We are going on Saturday at 10am” she asks
“I would love to be there. Are your aunt and Grandma going?”
“Yeah, they are going to meet us at the packhouse at 8am”
“Well, I made plans to visit them over the weekend, so I will come with them”
“Wonderful. I’m glad we finally got to meet. I know we have to build our relationship, but I’m just glad I got to meet you. I will see you on Saturday”
We all say our goodbyes and head to our individual homes. I still can’t believe I met my daughter today. I can feel how powerful she is and how kind.
