Introduction
The world as you know it has fallen. The only thing left of that time is abandoned buildings and the stories told to children at night to scare them into not making the same mistakes as our predecessors. That world fell due to a nuclear battle. The people who were left had to rebuild but they encountered something that had never existed outside of fairy tales before. Vampires. No one knew where they came from, all they knew is that they needed to protect themselves from those creatures.
Vampires are evil. They take humans from our world to their hidden world and use them as an unlimited source of blood. Humans have been fighting them for as long as anyone can remember. It’s a never-ending battle that neither side can win. The vampires are too cunning and have strength and speeds that humans don’t have and unlike what you might have heard, no they cannot be killed by a stake to the heart. They are immune to illnesses and poisons that would weaken or kill a human and you can watch their wounds heal in less than thirty seconds. How do you kill them then? Well, the humans have special weapons that will kill them only if you stab them through the heart or cut off their heads.
The cities are different from any that had been on earth before the existence of vampires. Humans live in cities surrounded by walls. No one leaves or enters a city unless the military approves it. Life outside the walls is virtually non-existent. People who tried living outside the wall were either killed or taken by the vampires.
Humans have made advancements, however. Now at the age of eight, you are bonded to an animal for the rest of your life, in return you have to train and join the army. Most animals are common domesticated animals but a dangerous wild animal gets bonded to a human once every century. If a wild animal that is bonded to a human is still alive, however, then a wild animal will not be bonded to a human that century. Humans and animals share different traits with each other. Humans give the animals longer lives while the animals give the human they are bonded with different traits unique to their species.
