CHAPTER 1
FALLING OF THE ALPHA KING
It was a seemingly quiet night in the BloodFang pack where its clan of werewolves rested their heads peacefully after a long day of haunting and catering for its members.
Living in secret deep in a hidden valley surrounded by lush forests, rolling hills and sparkling streams away from the eyes of humans was never an easy thing to do.
To keep the pack safe and hidden, a complex system of rules and countermeasures was in place, ensuring that its existence would remain a closely-guarded secret.
The guards surrounded all the entrances to their domain, always looking out for potential threats.
On this weary night, the palace of Alpha and Luna rested serenely atop the highest hill, basking in the silver moonlight.
But strangely enough, the sentries and patrols set up to protect the palace were nowhere to be seen.
The stillness in the air, an ominous breeze keeping Luna Martha awake besides her Alpha.
“What is it, my queen?” he asked as he noticed her restless demeanor. With a hand on her cheek, he beckoned her to tell him what was bothering her.
“I do not know my King, I feel something strange amiss.” she said, her calm and still voice invaded with worry.
He knew for a fact Martha was more sensitive compared to all the other wolves he had come across, so if she said something was amiss, he could not overlook it.
“Guards!” He sat up from the bed shouting towards the door for one of the guards to enter, but all that came to them was deafening silence.
There had never been a time when he ordered his guards, and they did not answer. Alarmed, he stood off the bed but stopped at something lurking in the darkness.
He muttered under his breath, “Sebastian?”
His brother stood before him with a shotgun in hand smiling wryly at him. “Your reign is over, brother.”
With a scream from Luna Martha, Sebastian pulled the trigger and a silver bullet went flying straight into the heart of the Alpha King.
“My King!” She ran crying towards the Alpha as he laid still in a puddle of his own blood. She slowly looked up at Sebastian with pure hate in her eyes,“ How shameless are you?” He looked back at her with a crooked smile on his face.
“I wouldn't want you to remember all this love.” With the back of his hand gun he hit her over her head, knocking her unconscious and leaving her crumpled on the floor.
The doors that led to their bedroom swung open, an air of disbelief hung over Jose as he saw his uncle standing over his father bleeding profusely and his mother lying still on the floor.
“Oh, well, isn't it a precious pack, son? I guess you'll be dying alongside your father tonight.” Sebastian said, pointing the gun at him with a disgusted look on his face, ready to pull the trigger just before the sound of multiple footsteps of guards approaching flooded the room.
“f**k!” Dropping his hand gun on the floor, Sebastian ran towards an open window that hung beside Alpha and Luna's bed, turning back one last time to see Jose still frozen in place in horror. He scoffed.
A look of fulfillment on Sebastian's face before jumping out of the window and escaping into the night.
Jose shakingly touched his mother's neck, relieved as he felt a pulse.
He bent over to hold his father's cold body in his trembling arms, his wound had not covered up and he lost so much blood to the point he turned completely pale.
“Father…” he muttered with a cracked voice, tears staking up in his eyes before the palace guards came rushing into the room.
A day later…
The Alpha King had been buried and laid to rest under the full moon.
The moon goddess, the guardian of the pack appeared, standing tall before them, her pale skin glowing like the moon itself.
Her hair is the color of midnight, flowing down her back like a silken river. Her eyes are the deepest blue, flecked with silver, and they hold a gaze that could pierce the darkest night as she looked over the grave of the Alpha king.
“It is quite unfortunate, may the Alpha's soul rest under the light of the moon.” she spoke under her breath before she faced the pack.
“I choose the new Alpha to be Jose, the first and only child of the Alpha and Luna of the BloodFang pack.”
Jose stood in shock as gasps filled the air in response to the moon goddess's announcement, quickly followed by whispers and murmurs as they wondered how the same man who killed his father would rule over them.
Sebastian arrived on the scene with a facade of devastation and tears in his eyes, drawing their attention to him.
“I can no longer keep silent about this! Jose is the one who killed his father, my only brother. It was suspicious when I saw him with a handgun in the dead of night, the same time Alpha was murdered. I quietly followed him to the gruesome sight of him killing his own father, but I fled out of fear. But, how can a man who murdered his own father out of greed be our new Alpha?” He shouted as he got on the floor weeping.
An inward smile formed in his heart as he heard the uproar of the pack at his claims, agreeing that Jose truly was the culprit as he was present at the scene of the crime.
“How dare you!” Luna Martha screamed out at Sebastian. “How dare you lie against my son? Why not tell the truth? You were the one who killed my husband!” She shouted out and Sebastian stood watching her in silence.
He had always been upset at the fact his brother was the Alpha of the pack and not him. What made it worse was he had taken the most beautiful woman in the land as his wife.
Despite what Luna Martha had said, the pack sides with Sebastian beaconing the Moon goddess to kick Jose out of the pack.
The uproar continued and, despite what the moon goddess felt was right in her heart in Jose's innocence, what the pack wanted to be, had to come first.
With a deep frown of regret, and a heavy heart, she cast Jose out of the pack.
“Jose of the BloodFang pack, I hereby banish you from the clan, never to show your face close to it for as long as you live.”
Jose's heart sank deep in his stomach at her words.
