thought his obsession was love. I was wrong. It was a cage. For two years, Adrian Blackwood gave me the world, but he took away my freedom. He tracked my phone, isolated me from my friends, and controlled every breath I took. He told me it was because he loved me. But love doesn't lock you in a golden tower. On the night of our second anniversary, I made the hardest decision of my life. I ran. I thought I had escaped the madman who claimed to own my soul. But I made one fatal mistake: I left behind a piece of him. Four years later, I am back. Not as the fragile girl he married, but as a woman with a secret that could destroy his empire. A secret with his dark eyes and my smile. But Adrian Blackwood doesn't forgive. And he never forgets. When he finds me, he won't just want me back. He will want to own me, my child, and my very soul. Can I escape the devil I married a second time? Or will his obsession finally consume us both?

The Golden Cage
The rain lashed against the windowpane like a thousand angry fists, but it was nothing compared to the storm raging inside Evelyn’s chest. She stood in the center of the master bedroom, a room that looked more like a museum exhibit than a home. Everything was perfect. The silk sheets, the crystal chandelier, the fresh white lilies that Adrian had sent every morning for the past two years. It was perfect. And it was a prison. Evelyn’s hands trembled as she reached into her coat pocket. Her fingers brushed against the small, plastic object she had bought from a pharmacy three blocks away, under a fake name and wearing a disguise. She didn’t need to look at it again. She already knew what it showed. Two pink lines. *I’m pregnant,* she thought, a tear finally escaping her eye and tracing a hot path down her cold cheek. *I’m having his baby.* A sob caught in her throat. Adrian would be thrilled. He would lock the doors, hire more guards, and never, ever let her leave this house again. He would wrap her in silk and diamonds, and she would suffocate. *No,* she told herself fiercely, wiping her face. *Not this time.* She grabbed the small duffel bag she had packed weeks ago, hiding it in the back of her closet. It contained only the essentials: cash she had secretly saved, a fake passport her old friend from university had managed to get for her, and a change of clothes. She was leaving. Tonight. Evelyn slipped her feet into a pair of flat, black boots. She couldn't wear heels; she needed to run. She took one last look at the room, at the massive diamond ring sitting on the vanity table. She had left it there. Let him keep his diamonds. She just wanted her life back. She crept out of the bedroom, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. The house was eerily silent. The staff had been dismissed for the night, a rare occurrence that she had specifically requested, claiming she wanted a quiet anniversary dinner alone with her husband. Adrian had smiled that dangerous, possessive smile of his and agreed. *“Whatever you want, my love. As long as you’re here.”* *As long as I’m here.* The words echoed in her mind, making her shiver. She reached the grand staircase, her hand gripping the cold marble railing. The front door was just twenty feet away. Twenty feet to freedom. Twenty feet to a new life. She took a step down. Then another. Suddenly, the heavy oak front door swung open with a loud bang. Evelyn froze, her blood turning to ice. Standing in the doorway, drenched in the pouring rain, was Adrian Blackwood. His dark hair was plastered to his forehead, and his black coat was soaked. But it was his eyes that terrified her. They were pitch black, burning with a terrifying, obsessive fire. He wasn't supposed to be back until midnight. It was only 9 PM. "Evelyn," he said. His voice was soft, smooth like velvet, but it carried a deadly edge that made her knees weak. He stepped inside, closing the door behind him with a slow, deliberate click. The sound echoed like a gunshot in the silent house. "Where are you going, my love?" he asked, taking a slow step up the stairs toward her. "And more importantly... what are you hiding in that bag?" Evelyn’s breath hitched. She clutched the bag tighter to her chest, her mind racing. How did he know? How did he always know? "I... I was just going for a walk," she stammered, her voice shaking. Adrian stopped on the fifth step, looking up at her. A dark, humorless smile touched his lips. He slowly pulled out his phone and tapped the screen. "A walk," he repeated, his voice dripping with mockery. "In the middle of a hurricane? Wearing flat boots? Carrying a bag packed with cash and a fake passport?" He looked up from his phone, his eyes locking onto hers with the intensity of a predator cornering its prey. "Did you really think you could leave me, Evelyn?" he whispered, the sound carrying across the grand foyer. "Did you really think I would let you go?" Evelyn backed away, her heel hitting the top step. "Adrian, please. Let me go. I can't breathe here. I can't live like this!" "You breathe because I allow it," he said, his voice suddenly rising, echoing with a terrifying authority. He took the remaining steps in two long strides, closing the distance between them in a heartbeat. He reached out, his large, warm hand gently but firmly wrapping around her wrist. His thumb stroked her pulse point, feeling the frantic beating of her heart. "You belong to me," he murmured, leaning in close, his breath warm against her ear. "Every inch of you. Every thought in that pretty little head of yours. You are mine, Evelyn. And you are never, ever leaving." Evelyn squeezed her eyes shut, a tear slipping out. She was trapped. Again. But as Adrian pulled her against his hard chest, wrapping his arms around her in a suffocating embrace, Evelyn’s hand subtly shifted inside her coat pocket. Her fingers brushed against the plastic pregnancy test. *You think you own me,* she thought, a sudden spark of defiance igniting in her chest. *But you have no idea what I’m carrying inside me. And when you find out... it will destroy us both.* "If you are enjoying the story, please Add to Library and leave a Comment! It really helps me and motivates me to write more. Thank you! ❤️🫂"
