Crossing Lines

772 Words
The tension between them had been simmering all morning. Siena tried to keep her focus on spreadsheets and deadlines, but every time Liam passed her office, he slowed just enough for their eyes to meet. That knowing smile—the one that said he remembered every second of last night—kept her restless in her chair. By midday, her patience snapped. She found herself standing outside his office, hand poised on the door. Before she could lose her nerve, she pushed it open. “Do you have a minute?” she asked, her voice steadier than she felt. Liam leaned back in his chair, gaze sweeping over her. “For you, Siena? Always.” Something in the way he said her name made her shiver. She shut the door behind her and crossed the room. “You’re distracting me,” she confessed, her hands tightening around the file she held. He smirked. “Good. I was hoping I was.” Before she could respond, Liam stood and rounded the desk. The air shifted as he closed the distance, his presence overwhelming. “Tell me, Siena,” he murmured, his hand brushing along her arm before settling at her hip, “are you here to scold me… or surrender?” Her pulse spiked. “Maybe both.” The kiss was instant, hungry—months of restraint shattering in the heat of the moment. His mouth claimed hers with an urgency that stole her breath, while her hands fisted in his shirt, pulling him closer. When his fingers slid along her thigh, inching up her skirt, Siena gasped against his lips. “Liam, someone could—” The sound of footsteps echoed in the hall. They sprang apart just as the door creaked open and Emma poked her head inside. “There you are,” Emma said, eyes darting suspiciously between them. “Siena, I was looking—” She paused, narrowing her gaze. “Am I interrupting?” Siena flushed scarlet, clutching the file tighter. “N-no, we were just… going over reports.” Liam, maddeningly composed, only smiled. “Miss Marlowe is very thorough.” Emma’s lips curved in a knowing smirk. “Right. Well, don’t work too hard, boss.” With a wink, she disappeared, shutting the door behind her. Siena buried her face in her hands. “That was too close.” Liam tilted her chin up, amusement flickering in his eyes. “Close calls make it more exciting.” She swatted his chest, though her lips twitched. “You’re impossible.” “And you like it.” --- That evening, Siena hesitated outside Liam’s townhouse, nerves fluttering in her stomach. The city lights glowed behind her, but here, the world was quiet. Intimate. Liam opened the door before she could knock, his tie gone, shirt sleeves rolled, that magnetic charm impossible to resist. “Right on time,” he said softly, offering his hand. Inside, the dining table was set with candles and crystal glasses, the scent of roasted herbs filling the air. Siena raised a brow. “You cooked?” Liam smirked. “I had help. But the effort is mine.” He pulled out her chair with old-world chivalry, and she felt the weight of his gaze all evening as they ate—playful conversation, stolen touches across the table, tension humming between every word. By the time dessert was finished, Siena could hardly breathe. When she stood to help clear the plates, Liam caught her wrist, pulling her gently but firmly into his lap. “Dinner was only the prelude,” he whispered against her ear. Her protest melted when his lips trailed along her neck, igniting sparks everywhere he touched. She turned in his arms, capturing his mouth in a kiss that quickly deepened, her hands tangling in his hair as he carried her effortlessly toward the bedroom. Clothes fell away, barriers with them, until there was nothing but heat and bare skin. Liam’s dominance was tempered with tenderness—his hands guiding, teasing, coaxing every sigh and gasp from her. Siena surrendered completely, her world narrowing to the press of his body, the rhythm of his touch, the sound of his name escaping her lips. Hours later, tangled in sheets, Siena lay against his chest, her fingers tracing idle patterns across his skin. For the first time in years, she felt both exhausted and utterly alive. Liam kissed the top of her head, his voice rough with honesty. “You belong here, Siena. With me.” Her eyes fluttered closed, heart full and trembling all at once. “Maybe I always did.”
