Chapter 49
Margaret arrives five minutes early at CIA Headquarters. The Secret Service walks on all sides of her, as though the Langley campus is a hostile country. As Adler walks through the entrance doors, the staff ushers her into an elevator, which takes her to a conference room on the top floor.
The Director of National Intelligence walks over to her and introduces himself, “George O’Neil, Madam President. I serve as Director, and before that, I proudly served our country as Lieutenant General in the United States Army.”
Margaret smiles. “You know how to brighten my morning, Director. It’s good to meet you in person. I was unaware of your previous service, and given the conversation we’ll have in a few minutes, your background is invaluable.”
